Don, I wasn't going to mention Medjugorje but yes, that Franciscans-vs.-diocese rivalry is partly behind the controversy there. (Cf. E. Michael Jones' writings and negative conclusion on Medjugorje.)

. Perhaps traditional indult Masses in Croatia today would be in Slavonic!

Not likely as these Glagolitic Catholics are known for their weakness for the Yugoslav Old Catholic Communion. I am sure the Tridentine crowd keeps their distance.

Hi,

Speaking of Medjugorje, the last time I spoke to one of the Croatian Frannies I asked about the Priest who Baptized my child. He had just returned from there. There was a concern amongst people about some of the folks helping out (posing) as Medical aid workers from other countries in B/H.Some of them where believed to be fanatical fundamentalists.A few years later after 9/11 the people they arrested over there were probably some of the folks Fr. K was speaking about.FYI

The book I was talking about earlier is: The Peasant Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina by Ivo Sivric, OFM. 200 pp/cloth/#0850-9/$4.95 "A background for the events at Medjugorje."
