You should have seen what I saw in Tokyo yesterday. I visited a Shinto shrine in the heart of downtown with some of my colleagues. Outside of the shrine, the teens/tweens gathered for the most outrageous fashion show you could imagine. It was kind of a cross between Mother Goose, Pippi Longstocking and a Green Day concert. Both girls and guys (and there were hundreds there) were trying to outtdo each other in wierdness. (I saw a guy there dressed as a 6 1/2 foot Little Bo Peep.)

Clothes can certainly reflect the inner state of the person. Here in Tokyo - where consumerism and materialism are rampant and 30,000 teens/tweens committed suicide last year, usually, I'm sorry to say, in groups - there seems to be quite a bit of interior and spiritual confusion. This is clearly mission territory here, if anyone is interested.

Pani Rose,

What shrines specifically?

Do you mean Christian shrines like Akita and Nagasaki? Or the other Shinto/Buddhist shrines?

If you have any links to Christian shrines, I'd love to know!

Gordo
