I have seen no independent news reports of anything going on currently, and that video is not dated. So my guess would be that the video is part of that March 2004 terror campaign. The only recent news I've seen from the region came over the weekend, when Serbia declared that it had sovereignty over the region. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5395962.stm --tim

Originally posted by Fr. Al, I just happened to be driving home from work the day that Michael Savage said that on the radio. I was quite impressed with his powerful words and sentiments that day. In Christ, Alice

Dear Dn. Robert you said: While Milosevic, an unreformed Bolshevik, was certainly not a "good guy", he's gone from the picture, and the last I noticed, the Serbs had elected a much more civilized government. What is especially galling to me is that Clinton's allies in the Mainstream Mass Media do not show us footage of these Church burnings. We have to get it from little-known Eastern Christian message boards. Sorry for the rant. Had to get it off my chest. I say: The media doesn't want to show the 'failed' war of our previous administration. It's a pity though! I don't know what's going to happen. The idiots at the UN want to rush through Kosovo's independance before there is more bloodshed, but now that Serbia has claimed soverienty, I don't know what will happen. (Good for her). We had no right interfering in a civil war. And for what? To support Muslim terrorists! Europe certainly does not want a Muslim, and consequently another terrorist state in Europe, (it has Bosnia), and certainly Greece doesn't want the Ottomans to continue their extension towards the Adriatic, (Italy). I say this because that was Turkey's original plan. Soon, the Muslims will be in the majority in FYROM, (Former Province of Macedonia), which has now been given the name 'Macedonia' by the UN, even though it was never Macedonia. I could go further and state that when Greece was freaking out about FYRON taking that name and showing pictures of Solonika, a Greek city on their tourist posters, she had every right to be upset. Can you imagine if Mexico renamed it's northern most province Texas and showed picture of the Alamo? If FYROM becomes a Muslim nation, then certainly it will start claiming the former Ottoman territory south of it. It's already causing a rumpus over Greek Thrace, and it's Muslim population. Also Kosovo wants to unite with Alabania, making Albania a predominantly Muslim nation. In other words, another extension of Turkey. So we have the Caliphate wanting to be restored by the Sunni's and Shia's, and the Sultanate being restored by Turkey. Oy vey! To get into a little recent history, the reason that Yugoslavia broke up was because the Slovenia's were tired of supporting the Kosovan's, and that started a chain reaction. The Serbs were leaving Kosovo because of the Albanian terrorists, and that left the Muslims in the majority...exactly what they wanted. It's the same story all over the world. Frighten people so they'll leave, and then claim the land. I can't help but feel, that those Muslim enclaves in France, Sweden, and Holland, will become permanently Muslim land. Zenovia

Dear Tim you said: The only recent news I've seen from the region came over the weekend, when Serbia declared that it had sovereignty over the region. I say: Actually Kosovo's independance is being brought up at the U.N. The UN is fearful of the situation and that it may lead to bloodshed. That is the reason Serbia has declared that it has soverignity over Kosovo. Pres. Clinton promised that Kosovo will always remain a part of Serbia, and that the Serb and Roma's (Gypsys) will be safe. So much for that. The neighboring countries, Bulgaria, Roumania, Greece, etc. were outraged over the war. It helped destroy their environment, as well as the disastrout political situation it caused. They are Orthodox, and they certainly do not like to see the Orthodox Churches and monasteries being destroyed...and for what? To satisfy the terrorists. Mass graves were never found in Kosovo, as far as I know, but I think there is more to it. Turkey has always had a close relation to Israel. I can't help but believe that the support of the Kosovan's, (who are an extension of the Ottomans, and are therefore Turks), by Israel, had an important role in the war...especially by Madeline Allbright. Today though, Turkey's relations with Israel are not too Kosher...so the situation is not exactly the same. Kosovo might not exactly get the same support by Israel, the USA or Europe as it did in the past...when Turkish propaganda was running wild. Yet, considering the situation of Turkey with the EU, she might start becoming more aggressive in her actions. Let's see what happens. Zenovia

Talk of independence for Kosovo has been going on since the 1999 war cleared Serbian military forces out of the region. The Serbian declaration of sovereignty is part of that ongoing process.
Conventional wisdom has been that there will ultimately be a partition of Kosovo, giving the Serbs some bit of the territory to save face, while giving the bulk of the territory autonomous status as an Albanian state.
While a lot of people get worked up about the fact that Albanians are majority Muslims, the fact of Albanian history in the nationalist era (since the 1800s) is that religious identification has not been a crucial part of national identity, with Roman Catholic and Orthodox Albanians all being equally part of the nationalist movement in both Kosovo and Albania proper.
The key difference here between Albanian nationalism is that nationalists of every other group in the region identifiy with a specific sect -- Serb=Orthodox, Croat=Roman Catholic, Greek=Orthodox, Bulgarian=Orthodox, etc. -- Albanian nationalists don't.
None of this lessens the severity of the crime of destroying a religious structure, but the motive here is not religious. It is, rather, a symbolic version of ethnic cleansing. That's pretty reprehensible on its own, whether it's Serbs destroying mosques in Bosnia or Albanians destroying churches in Kosovo.

Dear Tim you said: While a lot of people get worked up about the fact that Albanians are majority Muslims, the fact of Albanian history in the nationalist era (since the 1800s) is that religious identification has not been a crucial part of national identity, with Roman Catholic and Orthodox Albanians all being equally part of the nationalist movement in both Kosovo and Albania proper. I say: I think you are being naive. I have always been suspicious of Turkey and it's desire for territorial expansion into it's former Ottoman lands. Well that suspicion was confirmed recently when an article in the BBC mentioned their aspirations to expand to the Adriatic, (Italy). Before the war, and during the war in Kosovo, I would sometimes see a person in the background with a turban. We are not shown everything you know. Well on the Greek news, or so I've heard, these turbaned foreigners were more prominent. They were usually at the exits, to insure that the Albanian Kosovans would not leave Kosovo. Just imagine if this was done to any other people, the outrage it would cause. Actually, I believe Serbia is discouraging the Serbs from leaving Kosovo, and it is causing outrage in the UN, by Kofi Annan no less. It shows where his sympathy lies. When the Kosovans were shown leaving Kosovo on CNN, it was only for the cameras. I recall hearing later on that they were being paid $5.00 for each exit. Of course it became a revolving door, because in reality they kept going back. It seems that a Kosovan didn't recieve his $5.00 and complained...and so it became public knowledge. The problem here Tim, is that the Christians, and all other people will leave a place in order to insure the safety of their family. The Muslims would too, but they are not allowed to do so by their leaders. No Muslim country will take them in. That is how Kosovo became Muslim, and that is how Lebanon has become predominantly Muslim, and that is why there is a war in Kashmir, Israel, and so many other places in the world. The terrorists will continue to attack until each and every land becomes Muslim. It's called the bloody borders of Islam. The southern part of Albania is, or was predominantly Greek. As a matter of fact, the Albanian fighters that Lord Byron loved so much, were in reality Greeks. Today they have either left, or are leaving for Greece...and they are allowed to enter Greece and settle there. Now that's the difference. How many Muslim Albanians are allowed to go to Turkey, and if you ask them, they will readily deny they want to go. Why? Is it because they love their land, or is it because they have no choice but to say so. Yet at the same time, they will leave for Christian lands. Could it be that they are encouraged to do so? Each and every month, hundreds of people from Muslim nations are caught trying to get into the Greek islands from Turkey. Turkey will not stop them, and it is said that thousands manage to get into Greece undetected. Add to that the Muslims sneaking into Italy and Spain...yet why aren't they allowed to enter wealthy Muslim nations? When everyone is able to leave Kosovo, except the Muslims, then eventually the land will become Muslim. I know that no one in Eastern Europe, and especially the Balkans is innocent of ethnic cleansing. Without it there would be no national boundaries in that part of the world. The difference though is that today, it is being done by the Muslims successfully through terrorism, yet the world stands aghast if the Serbs do anything to retain it's sovereignity over a piece of land that is theirs.
