Hello all,
My daughter is preparing wedding invitations and I have a question about the best wording. Do you have any ideas for how to point to the sacramental nature of the wedding on the invitation? I was thinking of something a little more meaningful than "Come share our joy", something which indicates God's activity in the joining of bride and groom. The ceremony will occur after Divine Liturgy.
Thanks for any help.
Michele

Dear Michele,

Tell'm straight, that's my policy.

eg.

"The honor of your presence is requested at..." and then tell them exactly what is happening.

"The Crowning in Marriage"

or the "Divine Liturgy, and the Mystery of Crowning"

or if you really wanna spell it out....

"The Divine Liturgy, followed by the Mystery of Crowning, when God will unite...

or the "Mystery of Marriage"

or the "Sacrament of Holy Matrimony"

or whatever.

Let'm know what is happening!

Nick

My wedding invitation read the following:

Mr and Mrs <wife parents> request the honour of your prescence at a nuptial mass in which their daughter
< First Name Middle Name>
and
<Groom Full Name>
will be united in the sacrament of holy matrimony
on Saturday, the twenty-first of October,
at two-o'clock
<Name of Church>
<City of Church>

Thank you for the suggestions. We need to come up with the final wording this week-I will let you know how we do.
