Far and away, my biggest hobby is music! I currently sing and play mandolin (...did he say mandolin??) in a five-piece classic rock/country/blues/bluegrass/cajun/whatever band (we're really just five ol' guys havin' fun!) that performs on weekends in the greater Chicago area. We're not quite ready to give up the day jobs, though!

A couple of years ago I composed and arranged (four-part vocals) a complete setting for the Mass parts of the Latin Novus Ordo Mass... was humbled to have my work used (I just don't feel right saying "performed") during the opening Mass of the local Knights of Columbus Annual District Convention in our area, in addition to numerous uses at the local Latin church in our community... even managed to garner a couple of newspaper articles (with photo, even!) because of my composition!


My wife and I also greatly enjoy motorcycle touring. I owned a motorcycle before I even owned a car... or a driver's license, for that matter! Been ridin' since I was 15 - still at it at 55! A little motorcycle tour-related sideline for you: My sister, her husband, my wife and I were all on a motorcycle tour up in Canada during the time my Dad fell asleep in the Lord. Afterward, we determined that we were on board the "Maid of the Mist," the excursion boat ride that plies the waters of the Niagara River (the center of which forms the international boundary) at the base of the Falls at the very time that Our Lord called my Dad home. Not that it really matters at all, but I've often wondered if we were in Canada or the USA at the exact moment Our Lord welcomed my Dad into His arms...

In order. Music, both playing (stringed instruments) and listening to everything from Heavy Metal to Classical to Mississippi Delta Blues to Irish, Italian and Greek Folk Music to Elizabethan. Next, I'm a hardcore crime buff, specializing but not limited to the Prohibition Era. Friends and I photograph crime scenes, dig up autopsy, coroners inquests, investigation reports etc, and occasionally dispute "official versions". Chicago History comes next, followed by Miltary History and just History in general from Ancient to Modern, and last I love working out at Bally's so I can die healthy.

Theological studies I don't consider a hobby, but a necessity.

Deja Vu.

I write poetry. Love to play cards (favorites include Shanghai, Phase 10, Solitaire-Klondike, Skip-Bo), and also board games (Balderdash is definitely my favorite). I love fishing (the catfish, underappreciated in the North, is by far my favorite gamefish--big ones are fun to catch and good eating), camping and nature in general. I love to read and I love a funny movie (Chris Farley and John Candy can't be beat!). I love to listen to my aunts and parents tell stories about the "old days," and spend time with my dear sisters and nieces and nephews. I like polka, bluegrass, oldies (60s) and 80s music, and Jeff Foxworthy.

Any favorite Chris Farley movies? I have yet to see a full one, but thought about renting one to watch. (They showed a scene at a sales meeting I attended from Tommy Boy (?) where he tries to sell brake pads and ends up doing an accident reenactment on the guys desk. It was hilarious!)

I'm a semi-professional musician right now. I play a speck of Irish banjo, Irish tin whistle, and I'm learning the Irish Union bagpipes (uilleann pipes). While I'm still pretty terrible, I really love playing them.

I also enjoy reading, especially Theology. I like the sudoku too. and travelling, and beer. And cooking, too.

Tommy Boy is my favorite, although Black Sheep and Beverly Hills Ninja are also very good. I forgot to mention Jack Black, who is funny as heck in "School of Rock." Haven't played Uno in a long time--it's not bad. There are many card games I've forgotten how to play or want to learn.

You have to go with Tommy Boy. Without a doubt his all time best, and in my top 3 comedies of the 1990's. I'm laughnig right now just thinking of the scene where the door falls off the car!
