Shlomo Lkhoolkhoon,

It has come to my attention that there was a fire at Our Lady of Wisdom Byzantine Italo-Greek Catholic Church in Las Vegas in June 2006. The parish was meeting in their hall and it was the hall were the fire took place (the whole building was gutted). While the other parishes of the eparchy have supplied books, icons, vestments, and some financial help the parish is still in need of $700,000 to cover the deficit from the fire. If you can help please do so.

The monies can be sent to:

Our Lady of Wisdom

Shlomo Lkhoolkhoon,

All I know is what I have given you. Their Church burnt down, they are $700,000 in the red, and now their website is down too. I would contact the Van Nays Eparchy to get better information.

I am also happy to know that what has happened was that people were not informed. The priest of Our Lady is very upset that no one had come to his aid.

Dear Yuhannon,

Fr. Deacon Stephen was in with Fr. Deacons Stan, Lance, Paul, & John's diaconal class, along with many others. They were the first group of canidates for the Ruthenain Archeparcy of Pittsburgh.

If you see him, please have him post the info in the Deacon's Door here on the forum. There are many deacons, both Catholic and Orthodox that read it, that way word can get out to a lot of churches.

Thanks,
Pani Rose

You know, I have searched this out everyway I can think of on the web. I can find nothing in the newspapers online from Las Vegas about it.

Shlomo Pani Rose,

I now live here in Vegas, and I can tell you that it did happen. If you wish call Fr. Francis at the phone number provided, maybe he can give you a lead to it. Also here is a link to the Eparchal Newsletter that mentions the fire:

Also, I have only 2 hours a day to get on the internet so if you could pass this on that would be great.

Inquisitive of me!

Since St. Gabriel the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church in Las Vegas featured a bulletin on the current activities of Our Lady of Wisdom Italo-Greek Church, I thought the former was providing temporary "shelter" to Fr. Vivona and his parishioners.

St. Gabriel the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church
2250 E. Maule Avenue
Las Vegas, Nevada 89119

In St. Gabriel's Church Bulletin, the scheduled activities of Our Lady of Wisdom and Fr. Vivona are listed as follows, with contact numbers:

Our Lady of Wisdom Calendar

PILGRIMAGE TO GREECE: with Fr. Francis Vivona, April 24-May 2,2007. Information: (702?)451-41349 (The last digits total 5. --Amado)

VALENTINE DINNER DANCE & SILENT AUCTION: 10 Feb., 2007. 7pm-Midnight. $25 per person. $35 at door. Tables for groups of 6 may be reserved. Info (702?)873-5101.

And a pleasant surprise!

I called St. Gabriel and who answers the phone? Fr. Thompson, the parish priest! ! !

The good Fr. informed me that Our Lady of Wisdom had a fire accident in the inside only and the Church building was not burned down to the gorund. Fr. Vivona continues to celebrate the Divine Liturgy at the address provided by Yuhannon, while repairs are done.

Shlomo Amadeus,

From what I saw, more than the insides was affected. They have new masonary, and the entire front yard is torn up. But the main fact still stands that they are $700,000 in the hole and need help.
