Wasn't he the Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit, or am I thinking of a Maronite hierarch by the same name?

Dear Logos Teen, Glory to Jesus Christ! The Chaldean Bishop of Detroit is Bishop Ibrahim Namo Ibrahim. Must be a coincidence. I am sure the faithful will keep it straight. Deacon El

Dear Logos-to-a-T:
Like you, I have been "bedazzled" by these Arabic Christian Churches. However, it helped me follow the line by this exercise:
Chaldeans/Assyrians=Baghdad, Iraq Melkites/Syrians=Antioch, Syria* Coptics/Coptics=Alexandria, Egypt Maronites/None=Beirut, Lebanon
The LEFT/RIGHT combo corresponds to the Catholic/Orthodox axis.
The newly appointed Eparch in Canada is a Melkite Catholic, although a native-born Libyan!

*(There is also a Syrian Catholic Church, with an Oriental Orthodox counterpart.)

"The Holy Father: - Appointed..."
So much for the Patriarchal Melkite Greek-Catholic Church of Antioch!

Well, Lemko and Alex, you are UNDER Rome after all, aren't you? What do you expect? :-) Nothing new here, really.

Slava Jesu Kristu,
The Pope may have appointed him, but I'm sure it was Patriarch Gregory who chose him.

How about Rome tries this phrasing some time soon: "Today the Holy Father confirmed/recognised the appointment of (name) as Bishop of (place). Bishop (name), elected by the Synod of (name of Church), ..." etc. Oh well, one of these days... Andrij

Dear OrthodoxEast, But we're still hanging in with Rome anyway We'll continue to complain as well! And the way our Ukrainian Orthodox Churches are treated by world Orthodoxy - just because they want their own Church - well, Rome is still a better place to be for us Ukies! Sorry to be such a nash-onalistic Ukie Uniate! Alex

Dear Andrij, Or, better still, "Today the Pope acknowledged a communication sent to him by the Patriarchal Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Catholic Church, signed by Patriarch Lubomyr Huzar, informing His Holiness of the appointment and consecration of the following 37 new Ukrainian bishops and of the canonization of the following 103 new martyrs and saints by the Patriarch . . ." Don't you agree? We're getting there, we're getting there . . . Alex
