Diak that's what I was referring to, the practice of reciting most of the Divine Liturgy sans anafora. The question comes to mind as to why use this method when the established Obednitsa/Typica exists and exists historically. And it just isn't Eastern Catholic Churches that use the Divine Liturgy sans anafora either, Orthodox Churches do too.

As it happens, it is quite possible for one bishop, or even a number of bishops, to take some action or decision which nevertheless remains uncanonical. A few famous instances come to mind but charity forbids specifying them!

In the Horologion from St. Tikhon's, there is an Order for Typika served by a priest in place of the Divine Liturgy. It is essentially the standard Typikia/Obidnica service with the various Litanies of the Divine Liturgy inserted throughout. It says this order is based on information given by Bulgakov.

Is there a page reference - or several references - to Bulgakov? Unfortunately, the book has no index.

"This Office, sometimes designated Obednitsa, has been adapted based on information found in Bulgakov, pp. 698 and 791."

I don't know if there was more than one edition of Bulgakov's Nastol'naya Kniga, but the one St. Tikhon's references is from Kharkov, 1900.

S prazdnikom!

This link has an online version of the Typika, "based on the reader service typikon, by Bishop Daniel (the Old Rite Bishop of the ROCA) and translated by Fr. George Lardas. The translation used for the service itself is essentially that of Fr. Lawrence from Jordanville."

http://www.saintjonah.org/services/typica.htm

It is very much like the Typika which I have served during a priest's absence, except it does not include Communion.

Fr Deacon Randy,

Thanks for posting the Typika; I printed it and will read it through. Our official Ruthenian Typika is still under review.
