Deacon Richard- no problem- maybe I was meant to reveal my secret identity and you helped me do that
St Theodore's closed very recently. The godmother to my kids was part of the 'main' family there- and she is very upset....

Neil- the 'book' (only 100 pages) is in Romanian- he is planning on translating it and making it more 'American-style' (formatting, etc) this year- maybe a small book for Jack Figel's company (?)

An intriguing consideration: it seems that a major "justification" for the demand for celibacy is the possibility that the cleric may at any time be called to baptize. That is undeniably true. But in case of necessity, a layman may also be called upon to baptize (my grandfather used to carry a small bottle of Holy Water for that very reason). But the Catholics and the Orthodox have never had the nerve to demand perpetual celibacy of the laity!

Fr. Serge I'd be willing to bet there are a few monastics of both the eastern and western traditions that have posited such thought! It didn't do much for the Shakers in America!
