Dear Alex,

Even when they go out solo, they can be very scary. I was shopping this afternoon and, being as polite as my dear mother taught me, I stepped to the side to let a limping, elderly lady go past me in a crowded aisle. As she was passing, she stopped and whispered to me "Don`t try to pick up any cartons of eggs. Some of them hatched and just pecked me." I thanked her for the warning and made certain that we were on different check out lines.

By the way, did you check out the photo of the white smoking billowing up from the chimney in Montana, signalling the election of Pius XIII?

Peace,

Charles

Here is a link to a article related to the Pallium and referring to the Holy Father's examples of his orthodoxy, its title "The Reform of the Reform has already begun".

Dear Charles,

Actually, we have a "pope" in Quebec too . . . and there were (or still are) a couple in Spain (one of whom canonized Christopher Columbus and Franco as saints).

Fringe groups will be fringe groups. At least we don't have the situation with three popes competing with one another in the ecclesial mainstream as in the time of St Catherine of Siena!

Dear Photius,

Christ is Risen!

Yes, I believe we still do have those groups around!

However, while the canonical validity of their consecrations is certainly in doubt in mainstream Orthodoxy and Catholicism, many of us Ukies have great sympathy for them - especially since they tried to become independent of Moscow canonically but could not as no Orthodox body wanted to offend Moscow by consecrating them etc.

This is an issue for canonical Orthodoxy, from our standpoint, that needs to be addressed - including the continuing attitude of the Moscow Patriarchate with respect to the "sobor" of 1946 that "reunited" the UGCC with Moscow.

Alex
