Today, in the Latin Calendar, is the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua.

Happy Feast Day to all you Anthonys out there!

Especially to Father Anthony, a Happy Roman Catholic Feast Day to one of our resident Greek Orthodox priests! biggrin

Or Saint Anthony of Lisbon...

Naturally an important holiday in Lisbon and many other parts of Portugal, with big celebrations and out-door parties.

Yes, Happy Name and Feast day to all Anthonys, including Fr. Anthony...

Perhaps he might tell us if he were named for St. Anthony of Padua, since he is half Italian. smile

In Christ,
Alice

Dear Dr. Eric,

Thank you for reminding me so that I can venerate him. Saint Anthony of Padua is very dear me. He has never failed me, especially when I tend to lose something. wink

He is a saint with such an excessive purity of heart, that all one has to do is turn to him, and whatever is disturbing them will be resolved. smile

St. Anthony helped me when "I" was lost... I made a wrong turn in East St. Louis into a very bad neighborhood. I prayed to him and he told me where to turn to get back to the interstate to get to St. Louis.

Once again, thanks St. Anthony!!! biggrin

I'm always breaking the bad news to Italians, that St Anthony of Padua was actually Portuguese. Sometimes I even tell them St Dominic was really Spanish.

Yes, but never the less, St. Anthony is held in great veneration in Southern Italy--Portugese or not. wink

Dear Lawrence you said:

I say:

How would you like to be the one to tell them that Christopher Columbus was not Italian? Eek! eek There is a book by an American author proving that Columbus was a Byzantine Prince related to the Paleologus from the Greek island of Chios. His only tie to Genoa was the bank he used. wink

Dr Eric, Alice, and anyone else I may have missed,

Thanks for the festal greetings, but actually my patron saint is Saint Anthony the Great, celebrated on January 17th. No, Saint Anthony of Padua was never my patron, and I actually had no patron saint until my chrismation. My parents were not practicing any faith during the time I was growing up, so the concept of a patron saint was alien to myself and my siblings.

Again thanks! smile

Humm, maybe we need to be filled in here a little bit. Sounds like a wonderful conversion story to me biggrin

Not a chance Pani. That is between myself and my spiritual father, and that is how I would to keep it.

Oh Fr. Anthony,

I apologize. I didn't not mean any offence. I know for myself it was a long journey to our Eucharistic Lord although I had been brought up in the faith given by my parents as Christian and Sourthen Baptist.

I was not getting personal by any means. For us after our searching, it was merely a 'phone call' that led us in the direction we were to go. A dear friend had said to me, there is this church in town - they don't use Latin or English - but they are Catholic, I will find out what they are and call you back. The next day she called and said it was a Ruthenian Byzantine Church. I had never heard of such a thing and for reasons unknown, I never spoke with my friend again after that phone call. Go figure!

But, I always find it interesting as to how God lead people from no faith and Church to his Eucharist. The step that pointed the direction. I marvel at God's mercy and how we end up hearing his voice.

Again, I am sorry for any misunderstanding.

Father Anthony,

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I know that you are named after St. Anthony the Great, but I'll bet that St. Anthony of Padua is also praying for you too! biggrin

If there are any Orthodox Saints by the name of Eric or Henry you'll let me know, right. smile
