I would like to recommend a book by Sotis Chondropoulos called "A Saint For Our Times". It is a book on the life of Saint Nektarios.

The book reads like a novel, and the exceptional talent and devotion of both the author and the translators gives one the reality of the time and place our great Saint Nektarios lived in.

All in all, everyone that has read it considers it is a gem. smile

I believe our beloved Alice had a hand in the translation of this book.

It truly is wonderful.

Here in the Los Angeles area, we are blessed to have a beautiful shrine to Saint Nektarios. [saintnectarios.org] . The shrine has a rib bone of Saint Nektarios.

A relic of St. Nektarios is also in Charlotte, NC in a parish that was only granted a charter in 1998:

The Monastery of Saint Nektarios was celebrating him yesterday. I know that he is celebrated during Noverber, but wasn't aware until now that he is also celebrated in September.

The monastery is located at Roscoe N.Y., I think about 150 to 200 miles from N.Y.C. It is lovely, and growing lovlier each year. He is my patron saint, and it goes way back to a time when he was little known.

Just to mention one of my personal miracles, when my grandson was born, he was a blue baby. The doctor said that if the count reaches a certain level, he will need a transfusion. He also said that he might contract a certain illness, (I'm not sure what it was, it was so long ago), but he could not assure us that he would live.

Well I gave my son-in-law a bottle of oil from a Shrine of Saint Nektarios and told him not to worry. Later on I asked him if the count had risen. He told me yes it did. I was surprised, and asked him if it was before or after he placed the oil on him. He said they took his blood before he was able to put the oil on him, so I said, we'll see tomorrow. As was expected the baby was fine.

We were also freed from the worry of Aids, because at that time the doctors were not aware that it existed and transmitted through blood transfusions.

I could mention many, many more times that Saint Nektarios 'instantly' came to my aid by helping someone I love. Since so many problems keep popping up though, I had a terrible tendancy of forgeting to thank him for all he has done. Well that's changed now. I make sure now that each and everyday I will remember the many times he has come to my aid by saying an Akathist to him.

Thankfully, I never run out of Saint Nektarios' holy oil. wink

In Covina, California, there is the Church and Shrine of St. Nectarios.

They have an intact rib. Many miracles have been worked throught the intercession of St. Nectarios.

There is a Catholic Church across the street from the Shrine and every year they bring the children over and anoint them with the oil. Many Catholics with young children come daily to ask for an anointing from the Orthodox Priest whenever their children are ill.

The Armenian Orthodox also have a lively devotion to St. Nectarios and honor him every Sunday with a Paraklesis immediately following the Divine Liturgy. The Church is always packed for the Armenian Parakleisis.
