Dear Brian,

Yes, I agree.

But the reason BOTH Ukrainian Catholics AND Orthodox are into Latin practices could also have more to do with the idea of separating themselves spiritually from the Russian Orthodox, which is all a very sensitive issue from what people there have told me.

Religion there is united with culture and nationality in a way most of us would have difficulty understanding here.

Even the type of prayer beads one has tells other people over there what nationality one either belongs to or wants to belong to!

I would posit that this is in some ways a generational trait as well...some of the younger Ukrainian priests, esepcially those who have studied at the reopened LTA are occaisionally more Eastern than some North American clergy. One of the newer married priests in the Eparchy of Stamford even studied in St. Petersburg.
