Saint Michael's BCC, McAdoo, Pennsylvania

Pictures of Saint Michael's BCC in McAdoo, PA, taken on October 6, 2007.

I believe that this is the home parish of the late Bishop John Bilock.

This parish as well as the UGCC and the several Latin parishes in town celebrate the August 15th feast (Whatever we want to call it - Assumption / Dormtion) with a townwide procession, complete with the fire truck decked with blue ribbons, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, concluding with a Divine Liturgy in this parish or a Solemn Mass at the Church of Saint Patrick across the street, celebrated by the clergy of the Churches.

The one year I was able to make the procession Bishop Welsh, retired of Allentown and Bishop Pataki concelebrated the Divine Liturgy, and this church was absolutely packed to the gills.

I love being Catholic.

Jon: Do you know when St. Michael's will celebrate its centennial? I collect Byzantine Catholic and Orthodox parish histories--I have over 1,000 of them-- and somehow thought that St. Michael's was celebrating in 2008?

John,
I believe that they will be celebrating 100 years in 2008. The banners on the front, when magnified on my computer, look (although grainy) like they say 1908 ~ 2008. And now that you mention it, if I recall from the bulletin there was something about the centennial events.
I guess you should add this parish to your 'watch list' of to-get history items... Another picture post I plan in the future is the patch-town gem of St. John the Baptist in Maizeville, which will also celebrate 100 years next year.
All the best,
Jon

That is a really amazing Icon screen. I would love to get to that parish,

McAdoo seems like quite a place. As I recall, about 8 years back their fire station burnt down... They were showing off the new fire truck in a parade or some such. You just can't make stuff like that up!
