Saint Ann Melkite Catholic Church, Woodland Park, New Jersey

Saint Ann Melkite Catholic Church, Woodland Park, N.J.

St. Ann's obtained ten acres of land which was purchased and groundbreaking ceremonies performed in 1972 for a church, parish center and rectory under the guidance of Father Chalhoub and Father Gorayeb. On December 8, 1974 the present Saint Ann's Church was dedicated. Its massive gold dome and signature Byzantine styling can been viewed for miles on the hills surrounding Woodland Park (formerlly West Paterson) New Jersey.

St Ann's is indeed a very beautiful temple. I had the great pleasure of visiting there for a weekend back around 1973, shortly after the new church was built to replace the one destroyed by fire.

St Ann's is the home parish of Bishop Nicholas and his brother, Father Basil, and has been blessed with a number of other vocations as well, including Father Archimandrite Kenneth (Sherman), who is now back there as its pastor. I believe Father Philip (Azoon), of blessed memory, for whose repose we recently prayed here, USN Lt Cmdr Chaplain Shaun (Brown), and Protodeacon Michael Jolly are all sons of the parish as well.

The roster of priests who have served the parish at various times over the years is extremely impressive and includes our own Father Economos Roman (Ot'ets Nastoiatel').

May the memory of the founding pastor, Father Cyril (Anid), and those of St Ann's priests who have reposed in the Lord, especially the Priests Albert (Gorayub), Max (Chalhoub), Basil (Adcock), and Philip (Azoon), and Archbishop Joseph (Raya), be eternal.

Many years,

Neil

Indeed Neil, St. Ann's is a beautiful church, Saint Michael's Chapel is a road away and down the hill a bit, the members are very lovely people, their church picnic is a great affair. Many of their members come to our picnic and many of ours go to theirs, it is a very nice exchange between both parishes.
