Dear Alex,

I don't know what I would do either. The idea of modernizing the Byzantine Liturgy (abbreviation, inclusive exclusive language, etc. etc.) is unthinkable. Who would ever defend such a thing?

Nick

I hope you're having a great 50th birthday.

Dear Nick,

Yes, that is a scary thought . . .

It HAS happened up here in Her Majesty's Dominion of Canada however!

When I was growing up (I like to think of that as an ongoing thing with me . . .) I heard about Ukrainian priests and nuns in Western Canada having shortened Liturgies (even shorter than now!) using altars FACING the people.

I experienced the horror of that when I brought a Ukrainian priest with me to serve a Byzantine Liturgy in English for our university Catholic students' club and they forgot to turn the altar around - so Father just served it facing the people . . .

Thank you for your kind best wishes!

I will eventually have to go out and finish that raking job, birthday or no . . .

Alex

Theist Gal said: With all due respect, I think that if Protestants and Freemasons had designed the new Mass, it would have had a much better translation, more and not less ritual, and WAY better music!
LOL. Touche'.

Please forgive me because I have no intention of insulting anyone here.

But this story is so bogus it almost makes me laugh. It's been going around for a long, long time; but I don't believe a word of it.

You don't have to beleive me if you don't want to. But it is quite obvious the Pauline Mass is a complete break with the organic development of the Liturgy of the Latin Church. Here is a good article on that particular issue

I don't believe it either. It belongs with those stories of the real Pope Paul being held in a secret prison while an imposter was on the Papal throne.

I think this thread may have run it's course as it is going all over the place.

I agree. As this topic has wandered from its original title, it should be closed. Please feel free to begin a new discussion on any topic, under an appropriate title.
