I'm not that familiar with Eastern Traditions and therefore have to ask a lot of questions which may seem silly to some. Anyway, here goes: Byantines.net is a very informative site and includes a section on Eastern saints. One of the saints included is St. Patrick, http://www.byzantines.net/saints/INDEX.HTM There is even an icon of him. Here is my question: Is St. Patrick considered to be an Eastern Saint? Slan, JP

He is a Roman and Latin Catholic of the West, so no he is not an Easterner. The East does recognize him as a saint and some Eastern calendars have added him.

According to the calendar put out by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Dept of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, Saint Patrick is listed as one of the saints for this day. The following is from the electronic version of that calendar: Saints, Feasts, and Readings for 3/17/2006
Saints and Feasts: Alexios the Man of God, Saint Patrick, the Enlightener of Ireland, Marinos the Martyr, Theocteristos the Confessor
Strict Fast Day His commemoration also appears in the synaxarion for today also. Most saints that were part of the church prior to the year 1054, both eastern and western are commonly venerated by both. I have listed in the prayer section under the heading of this day the Troparion and Kondakion of the saint, along with a brief life coming from the OCA website. In IC XC, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

liked the Icon of St. Pat immensely. there has been a historical link between Celtic and Orthodox Christianity that a number of reputable competent scholars have long asserted. there is a book called something like "Egypt in the Irish Bogs", or something like that. I have a copy at home in my library, which I had purchased through the Orthodox monastery in Resaca, Georgia a year so ago.Oh, on my father's side of the family, they came from County Galway.so it really is a heavy that I, an Eastern Catholic, post this on St. Pat's feast day, and that I should. any problems with my post? then get along with ye! Much Love, Jonn Daniel Mulry

Some time ago some of the Orthodox Churches added saints from the west whose glorification had occured before the Constantinople - Rome split. I have a ROCOR calendar which has St Patrick in it and a host of other western saints.
