My daughter will be baptised in three weeks and as I prepare for this event I would be interested to know of any particular eastern Catholic customs with respect to baptism.

I'm thinking of asking for full immersion (which I saw for a Catholic baby in the U.S.) as Kate hates having any water on her head / face (screams!) but will tolerate it if she is in the bath! biggrin

Any thoughts?

Sounds a good idea - a little crying can be expected/tolerated - but healthy full blooded screaming may not be appreciated biggrin

Why not - talk to your priest and explain your reasons - he may well agree.

After all - nothing ventured etc .

Pity they would not be likely to agree to all the Sacramnets of Initiation for her though frown [ you could ask though :p ]

Full immersion is a great start, and it is wonderful seeing the RC clergy moving towards this again.

You could sing "All you who have been baptised into Christ, have put on Christ" after the triple immersion. There are lots of musical settings of this out there, such as http://www.saintmichaels.info/music/pdfs/E-All-You-Who-Have.pdf which is a wonderful setting from the ACROD.

As far as looking at the service itself, you might want to check out http://www.byzantines.net/liturgy/baptism.htm, http://www.archeparchy.ca/liturgical/mysteries/baptism_and_chrismation.htm and another good article is at http://www.orthodox.net/articles/baptism.html

You might also want to look at Fr. Alexander Schmemann's wonderful work on Baptism "For the Life of the World".

I've never read this (although it's on my shelf), but are you sure you're not talking about Of Water and the Spirit?

"Of Water and Spirit" is also a great book which deals more specifically with Baptism and another great suggestion to be read. It especially is rich with its discussion of the Paschal nature of Baptism, and the baptismal nature of Pascha.

I mentioned "For the Life of the World" as it contains the chapter called "Of Water and Spirit", but the book as a whole ties in all of the sacraments in a more big-picture way of living out our baptism, discusses sacraments and symbols, etc.
