Laudetur Iesus Christus!

And here is the story: http://www.ssjohn.org/news/alliance.html
I should only add that Abbey of Our Lady in Fontgombault is noted for obedience to the Holy See. In mid 70's they obeyed orders from Rome and introduced new liturgy, although it was very painfull for the monks community. Their esteem for the old liturgy is understandable, since this monastery, originally established in 1091 and abandoned during French revolution, was renewed in 1948 by monks from Abbey of Solesmes, famous for the 19th century revival of gregorian chant.
In 1984, with the first indult for the classical roman liturgy "Quattuor abhinc annos", the readily returned to the old usages.

Wonderful news is that this Monestary has established a new priory in Hulbert Oklahoma (Our Lady of Clear Creek Priory). Vocations at this monestary are skyrocketing, they are even putting people in sheds because they are out of room.

I believe they were on Mother Angelica live. Very interesting, they showed pictures of the grounds, and shared what God was doing in their midst.

the night before one of the monks was on Journey Home. I see that you live in Irondale. How lucky for you to be so close to that magnificent shrine.

Joe, can you give the precise date of this show or the name of the person interviewed? Real audio archives are available for "The Journey Home". I would like to hear this program.

Thanks,
Vicki Williams

It was in November of 2001. I think it was 11/15/01 or maybe 11/27/01.

Fr. Philip Anderson, the Prior of Our Lady of Clear Creek, was on The Journey Home on 11/5/01. The next night, he and the Abbot of Fontgombault were on Mother Angelica Live. You can listen to both shows in Real Audio:

The Journey Home: http://www.ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/frmselecrprog.asp?seriesID=-6892289&T1=journey
Mother Angelica: http://www.ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/frmselecrprog.asp?seriesID=7

I have personally met Fr. Prior when I visited Clear Creek in January (a vocational inquiry), and I can say that he and the other monks are very holy men.

The is a hermitess living near the monastery who has a web site: http://www.anchoress.com

Peace,
Jason

In 1984, with the first indult for the classical roman liturgy "Quattuor abhinc annos", the readily returned to the old usages.

It is true that they use the old liturgy, with some modifications.

They (Fongombault and Clear Creek) use the Monastic Breviary for the Office (not the Roman Breviary), and they use the 1962 Missal for their Masses. The low Masses are strictly celebrated according to the 1962 Missal, but the High Mass, the Conventual Mass, has a few modifications:

  • No prayers at the foot of the altar. The Mass is celebrated after the Hour of Terce, and the Mass begins with the Kyrie.
  • The "Secret" is chanted aloud, not said silently.
  • The entire "Per ipsum" at the end of the canon is chanted aloud, not just the "per mnia saecula saeculrum."
  • No Last Gospel.
  • The Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei are chanted by the choir. The priest does not say them in a low voice. According to the 1962 Missal, the priest would also say them in a low voice as the choir was singing.

The liturgical calendar, I believe, is a hybrid of the new and the old (but closer to the old) and has some Benedictine feasts thrown in.

Peace,
Jason
