Dear David the Carmelite pre-Novice!

There's no doubt that one can live the spiritual struggle within the NO context.

I don't know about where you are, but where I am if you mention fasting to NO Catholics up here they look at you as if you are from the dark ages or something.

The Tridentine liturgy has much to commend it - and there are Catholics up here who do "resort" to it with the blessing of the Cardinal Archbishop, including one woman who was a fallen away Catholic, who now attends a Tridentine Liturgy weekly, and who will go after you to defend the Catholic Church at the drop of a hat (thrown in the Church's direction).

The Tridentine Rite is more beautiful and spiritually meaningful than the NO Rite.

Sorry, but that's how I feel.

First, no such thing as a NO Catholic.

Second, this just shows that there is an issue with cathecisis, not with the form of the Liturgy.

The old Latin Mass is nice and there are those who prefer it over the Pauline Mass but I disagree on the "more beautiful and spiritually meaningful". When the Pauline Mass is celebrated as it should be it is just as beautiful and meaningful.

I believe you are comparing apples to oranges. If you wish to compare an abuse ridden Pauline Mass then you must compare it to a like old Latin Mass, not with the best.

The FSSP parish I used to attend was a mix of older and younger folks but there were TONS of children. Many families with 6-10 kids.

My local parish across the street serves the current Latin Rite. Although it is very reverent, there still seems to be something missing in the way it is celebrated. It is still more horizontal and less transcendent than the Rite of '62. And my current parish is one of the best expressions of the current Mass I have attended in person.

In theory the Pauline Rite should be able to match the beauty of the Traditional Rite, but to this point it remains virtually non-existant (outside of EWTN and a few parishes scattered across the country) so it is really irrelivant unless younger priests begin the reform of the reform in earnest. I for one doubt they can do this without the aid of the riches found in the Traditional Mass, although I fully support the "reform of the reform" al la Benedict XVI.

This new Society is great news for ALL faithful Catholics. Now that Cardinal Bertone is set to take over as Sec. of State watch for Benedict to start to more agressively implement liturgical reforms and reform the Curia.

I've always said that I think a Novus Ordo/Pauline Mass done very reverently still leaves me cold compared to a Tridnetine Mass, but then again I understand this is just a personal opinion and I respect others who disagree, though I admit I don't understand.
