Here are my Amazon reviews. I have reviews of the Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition (RSV SCE) and the Orthodox Study Bible (OSB).

My estimation of the English Standard version (ESV) mentioned in these reviews has gone down considerably after I saw how 1 Timothy 3:15-17 was translated.

From what I read about the RSV CE version II, the footnotes etc are on the subject pages, Isaiah 7:14 is corrected as well as Psalm 8, Thee & Thou are retained in the Psalter but are not in the other texts...but remember I have been known to be a bit fuzzy in the memory banks...

Now, is it available in large print? The old eyeballs aren't what they used to be and I can't get a new pair of them.

I use bifocals but I can read the print without them...and at $39.95 its a deal...and alot better than any NAB !

THe RSV CE II also has some fairly large print, although. I have read it a lot this week, they really did do a very good job. I like. There are no thees or thous at all in the second edition. I also like some improvements:

1) Passages in John that have only Son are now only begotten Son (Jn 1:18; John 3:16)
2) the commentary notes are now at the bottom of the page, rather in the back, like the original RSV CE.
3) Great type face and nice paper, even on the paper back edition, which I own.

I really hope the RSV II catches fire in the church and among the catholic public. IT is the best Catholic bible available.

LOL I have TRIfocals and have come to the point that if I spend too much time reading the ordinary print in publications it feels like the old eyeballs will fall out. So I look for large print and giant print whenever I can find it.

Seriously, though, I have the Ignatius Press catalogue in front of me and it doesn't show a large print edition--just a 6.5" by 9.5" size in bonded leather, sewn hardcover, or sewn softcover. Are there other vendors who might have a large print edition?

I know that there are some who like the Thee's and Thou's in the reading of Sacred Scripture. Personally, I am NOT particularly attached to them, and welcome this new version - especially with the new formatting.

I do like thees and thous sometimes, the archaic language has a nice cadence for prayer.

But this morning, I read all of the psalms in the Byzantine office, the Kathismas and the first three hours (a benefit of being single!) and I have to say it was a joy to read them in the RSV II.

Even though the thees and thous are updated, the language and the phraseology are retained from the original RSV. It was wonderful to anticipate the wording and find that it fits.

I have changed my mind several times in my adult Christian life about what translation to use. But I would always come around to the RSV. ANd now, wiht this RSV II being so excellent, it is going to be my bible. I want badly to memorize huge portions of scripture in one version.

And the RSV II is reliable.

I hope it really catches on in the church.
