Friends,

A friend in Rome said that it was announced last year, after Patriarch Gregory of the Melkites was enthroned, the pallium would no longer be given to Byzantine bishops. I guess we shall see.

In Christ,
Lance

Lance,

That would certainly be a BIG step forward. I hope that your friend is right. Like you said, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Joe,

In quickly skimming throught this thread I didn't see an answer to your question of they the Metropolitan bishop receives the pallium and how it differs from the omophorion.

The bishop receives it as a token of communion with Rome and recogniztion by Rome of the position held by that bishop. For an Eastern prelate it has no other significance.

Perhaps this discussion of omophorions and palliums should be moved to the Faith and Worship Section of the Forum. In fact, I'll begin another thread on this topic there.

Dear John,

A point well taken. This thread has deviated from its original title about dates (now publicly announced). So it should end, and this discussion can continue under a better title.

Thank you!

Elias
