Fr. Benedict Groeschel Critically Injured in Car Accident
in Florida

EWTNews-Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR, well known to EWTN viewers for his numerous series and appearances on the network, is in critical but stable condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center after being struck by a car near Orlando International Airport in Florida. The incident occurred Sunday evening. Details are sketchy but sources say the priest was walking to a restaurant for a meal when he was hit. EWTNews will keep you informed of this situation as it develops.

Please keep Fr. Benedict in your prayers.

I am very saddened to read this. I met Father Groeschel ten years ago at a talk he gave. We spoke briefly afterward. He is a very holy and humble priest. I will be saying many prayers for him. May God heal Father Benedict of all his injuries and May He Grant Father Many Blessed Years in Health and Happiness.

In Christ,
Anthony

O Lord Jesus Christ our God, You patiently endured the scourging and wounding of your sacred body, that You may save the souls and bodies of your people. Look now graciously on the suffering body of your priestly servant Benedict, and give him the strength to patiently bear whatever awaits him. Bless the people and all the means which will be used to restore him to health; and grant that he may accept his bodily sufferings as a means of reparation for the salvation of his soul. For You, O Christ our God and Savior, are merciful; and we give glory to You, together with Your eternal Father, and Your all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen.

Dear Father Gregory,

Thank you very much for letting us know about this.

I have admired Father Benedict for his humility and great spirituality for many years, and had the honour and blessing of meeting him a couple of times...he would always say, "Ah, yes, my Orthodox friend!"
*************************************************
May our Lord God be with his servant, Benedict the priest during this critical time. May our blessed Lady protect him, and through her intercessions, may she bring him to healing for the sake of the 'agape' love he shares with persons of all faiths for her Son's kingdom.

May St. Francis also intercede so that Father Benedict may continue his work with the poor.

I pray this with all my heart, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

May the Lord heal speedily His servant, Fr. Groeschel!

I love the way he used to introduce himself as the "best disguised psychiatrist in New York City!"

He commented on how charitable the Japanese were to him when he was in Japan. One man went several subway stops out of his way to show Fr. Groeschel the hotel he was to stay at.

Fr. Groeschel commented, "If someone went with you a few more subway stops like that in New York City, you know you are in trouble . . ."

Dear Alex,

Yes, Father Benedict has a great New York city sense of humour.

He met a couple of Jews once on an airplane who recognized them. He asked how they, being Jews, knew of him. They answered, we watch you because we love your Jewish sense of humour! smile

In Christ,

This is so sad, I am really praying for him. He is one of my favorite Catholic writers ...

May God grant him more years to write more books, please - we still need him! frown

Dear Alice,

Fr. Groeschel used to comment on his close relations with his Jewish friends and told viewers not to be bothered by this since it is a "New York City" kind of thing.

When I was working on developing a Holocaust memorial day act with my Jewish congress friends, we became very close.

One of them lives across from my mother (he's a Rabbi) and he always comes out to shovel the snow on my mother's walkway. smile

May the Lord bless and heal Fr. Benedict through the prayers of the holy unmercenary saints!

I remember he once commented to a few of us: "If the end of the world comes, somebody let me know--we won't be able to tell in the South Bronx!"

Fr. Benedict is truly a great and wonderful man; at least it seems so from all that I've seen and heard about him on EWTN and elsewhere.

Lord Jesus, visit and heal your servant, Fr. Benedict, restoring him to health so that he may continue to praise Your holy Name by the example of his life, his preaching, and his holy prayers.

AMEN.

May Our Lady intercede for Her priest Fr. Groeschel ... and the saints in Heaven he loves -- especially Venerable Solanus Casey OFM Cap. -- may it be God's holy will to heal His servant!

Fr Benedict is one of the great characters of the Catholic Church in America and the funniest, wisest and most captivating preacher I have ever heard [and believe me if you only know him on tv you only get a small part of his wit!] I was deeply saddened by the news but I know he is a tough old guy: I was in Italy with him some years ago and he wore us younger guys out keeping up with him; this after several heart attacks. May our Lord restore his health to continue to serve His Church. And Father, forgive me this prayer if you're ready to go home but we still need you!

frown It is indeed a sad day, but I rejoice when he is out of that hospital room he will have much to teach us about the Lord. In my heart I can't help but to believe he will be alright. The darkness of this world cannot triumph over the Light of Christ which Fr. Groeschel brings so freely to soooo many in a hurting world. biggrin

Most Holy Theotokos pray for him that he makes a quick and complete recovery.

Bishop Fulton Sheen pray for him, that his healing may be a complete miracle attributed to you for your cannonization.
