Dear friends,

My teaching contract expires in early May, and I have no job prospects in sight. The way that it is looking now, I will be unemployed... with no money, no healthcare, nothing. I have been very worried about this for the past several weeks. I don't know what I am going to do. There aren't a lot of options for someone with a degree in theology.

Please remember me in your prayers, that, if possible, God will bless me with a job in which I can do his work and still adequately support a family.

Much thanks,
Anthony

Anthony,

Surely I will be praying you get a position soon. Know the feeling too. I had an M.A. in Religious Studies and besides doing some parish staff work I finally found a job teaching part time as an adjunct instructor in history at the local university. However, this meant taking more graduate hours in history and lots of preparation. Not the usual way it goes, but they got desparate one day to fill a couple of classes in a hurry and hired me. Did require at least an M.A.,however. Am retired now but count what was certainly unexpected quite a blessing.

Praying that whatever happens it will also be your blessing.

In Christ and the Theotokos,

Dear Anthony,

Be assured of my many prayers, both private and given to services and proskomide, for you to find suitable employment. You will always be a very special person as it was you who first mentioned this wonderful, wonderful forum on the EWTN Question and Answers, and thus, because of you I have found my spiritual home on the internet! smile

It was also your desire for unity of Catholics and Orthodox that also inspired me to work towards this goal.

Ofcourse, St. Joseph is a special saint known for this intention in the West, and most recently in the East, St. Nektarios who suffered bouts of unemployment himself, has answered the prayers of many faithful.

I offer you and all others here who may have this special intention, this prayer to read daily, from EWTN Prayers:

God, our Father, I turn to you seeking your divine help and guidance as I look for suitable employment.
I need your wisdom to guide my footsteps along the right path, and to lead me to find the proper things to say and do in this quest. I wish to use the gifts and talents you have given me, but I need the opportunity to do so with gainful employment.
Do not abandon me, dear Father, in this search, but rather grant me this favor I seek so that I may return to you with praise and thanksgiving for your gracious assistance.
Grant this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen

Praying that our Lord God, through the intercessions of St. Joseph, St. Nektarios and the Blessed and Most Holy Theotokos, will guide you, comfort you, ease your fears and anxiety, and find you a suitable job very, very soon.

In Christ our Lord,
Alice

Anthony,

Prayers for you to find suitable and gratifying employment. Having just suffered through a year of that kind of situation that you describe fearing, I understand greatly why you are concerned. Presently, I have work - far removed from my field and not particularly remunerative, but something that will help to tide me over while I do more looking. My prayers that you are successful in a much more timely way.

Many years,

Neil

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH FOR EMPLOYMENT

Dear Saint Joseph, you were yourself once faced with the responsibility of providing the necessities of life for Jesus and Mary. Look down with fatherly compassion upon me in my axiety over my present inability to support my family. Please help me to find gainful employment very soon, so that this heavy burden of concern will be lifted from my heart and that I am soon able to provide for those whom God has entrusted to my care. Help us to guard against bitterness and discouragement, so that we may emerge from this trial spiritually enriched and with even greater blessings from God. Amen.

In the precious name of the Lord,
+Fr. Gregory

Prayer to St. Josemara Escriv, founder of Opus Dei ('The Work'---of Holiness Through Ordinary Labor)

PRAYER FOR A SPECIAL INTENTION:

O God, through the mediation of Mary our Mother, you granted your priest St. Josemara countless graces, choosing him as a most faithful instrument to found Opus Dei, a way of sanctification in daily work and in the fulfillment of the Christian's ordinary duties. Grant that I too may learn to turn all the circumstances and events of my life into occasions of loving You and serving the Church, the Pope and all souls with joy and simplicity, lighting up the pathways of this earth with faith and love. Deign to grant me, through the intercession of St. Josemara, the favor of ... (make your request). Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.

In His Holy Name,
+Fr. Gregory

Dear Anthony,

Prayers!

But you should just start writing on religious topics, you know (or should know) where the religious market is weak and where you can supply the weakness!

The Christian market is really HOT now and there is NO excuse for you not to write popular works for people's edification.

Just sit down every day for two hours and get to it!

And you won't consider ordination as a married priest? A friend of mine, who was a married deacon, asked me to pray for a solution to his employment problem.

So I bowed my head and then turned to him to say, "Go to my Great Uncle in Ukraine to get ordained a priest!"

And he said, "What . . .?"

And I said again, "Go to my Great . . ." wink

The next day, I met him and he told me that he was going "To my Great . . ."

And then the sot said, "I'm so glad I came up with that idea."

"Oh yeah," I replied, "You're a real genius . . ." wink

He's a happy, married priest today, with lots of parishioners, most of whom couldn't speak Ukrainian if their lives depended on it ( wink ).

May YOU be so blessed. So don't shy, go and give it a try! (Unfortunately, my Great Uncle has since reposed in the Lord, but I'm sure I could look up another relative for you . . .)

Alex

Anthony,
I can bear with your situation. my job will come to an end soon, as it is only interim as my non-profit is undergoing drastic change. I have a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, and am still looking. health care? TennCare is about to ditch me and three hundred thousand others, and who is going to insure a man with a history of seizures and rheumatoid arthritis? and if I could get such insurance, I would have to change my name to Rockefeller in order to afford it. I give you my empathy, best wishes, and prayers. Bear one another's burdens, thus fulfilling the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2).
Much Love,
Jonn
