Brothers and Sisters:

Christ is in our midst!! He is and always will be!!!

Please keep me in your prayers for a condition that has been developing during the past two years. As a result of taking a very "heavy duty" anti-inflammatory drug for the past twelve years in the aftermath of a work-related set of injuries, one of the side effects has begun to take hold of me. I've had a few episodes where I've been awakened in the middle of the night with acid in my throat. On two occasions I almost aspirated it into my lungs before I was able to clear it out. The result is that the acid has begun to affect my vocal cords and my ability to speak clearly some mornings. My voice has become raspy and sometimes people have trouble understanding me.

I'm taking Protonix now for about the past year and a half or more. Unfortunately just when I think things are under control I have a scare. The worst was one night when I rolled out of bed at 2 a.m. and was about half asleep on all fours trying to clear the acid out. The worst part of that particular experience was that I was home completely alone--family had gone to visit relatives and I couldn't go along because of work--and I couldn't summon help. Makes one sensitive to those who must live alone with heart conditions, etc., and who express fear of the unknown.

Someone suggested that it's just the meanness coming out.

Meanness...oh...Bob...no way...not you!!! I have this disease which as shared with you before seems to be under control. My episodes have sometimes been as you describe and it was always such a shock too right in the middle of the night with no warning.

The comment was made as a "tongue in cheek" remark. But I gotta admit that I'm still a work in progress and the Lord's got a lot of work to do before I'll be anywhere near being the kind of servant He calls me to be.

Healing and health!

Bob,

My good friend, my prayers for you (probably ought to lose that chili recipe :rolleyes: ), that you will be spared further discomfort, distress, and pain and that God will grant you many years in health and happiness

Get yourself to Wal-Mart�s and purchase a mid-range juicing machine. Not the best but not the cheapest either.

Then head off to the suppermarket and get yourself a BIG bag of carrot and a thing of celery and any other veggie you might like - and then over to the juice shelf and pick up some apple juice.

Start with the carrots and do the celery last as it fibers tend to clog things up.

Juice up a big glass - twice a day to begin with - and after a few days just one glass a day. Do that for at least one week - and after that play it by ear.

Stay away from anti-acid pills - as the esophagus needs acid to kill bacteria that might come up from the stomach and get into the lungs. If you become and anti-acid freak - you risk pneumonia in the lungs.

If you feel you need something in your stomach before bed - chew a carrot. It is the best anti-reflux thing I know of.

And yogurt is good too. The expensive kind not the cheap stuff.. Live - cultures.

See - your prayers have been answered. If it is - acid reflux - this will work in a natural way - and after a few weeks - just do it when you need it.

If you do it too much (like I did once) like 4 glasses a day - the orange dye in the carrots will turn you orange like a tan (hehe) but not really harm you.
