Dear Friends,
Please join me in a prayer of blessing for our Father Elias and all Byzantine Carmelites on this the Feast of the Most Holy Mother of God of Mount Carmel!
There is an actual image of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel that is venerated as a miraculous icon by Orthodoxy in the city of Horodyschenske in Ukraine in a former Latin monastery now belonging to the Orthodox.

Bless me a sinner, Venerable Father in Mt. Carmel! This icon is written up in Professor Poselyanin's "Bogomater" published at Jordanville. Horodyschenske is a town in Ukraine, I believe, and if I'm wrong, I'm sure Subdeacon Piotr Siwicke will be quick to correct me with an added quip . The monastery there was an actual Carmelite monastery and was passed on to Orthodox hands. I'm not sure about the circumstances of how this happened. The Orthodox monks there continue to venerate the miraculous picture of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel that they and the people who go there on pilgrimage call "Shkaplirnaya" or "of the Scapular." It is the only example of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel venerated by the Orthodox under this title that I know of. (But I'm sure Subdeacon Piotr will correct me if I'm wrong . Have a blessed Feast day today, Venerable Father and happy Namesday on the Feast of St Elias. Like your prophetic patron, you too raise us up to the heights of heaven with your inspiring words! Alex

May the beautiful insights found in Carmel continue to give insight into the wonder of God and the powerful intercession of His Mother to all of our Churches.
May Father Elias and his community be given prosperity and great growth in the Spirit.
Happy Feast Day, Father.

Thank you all very much for your prayerful good wishes! It was a blessed and glorious feast day!
I attended the first profession of vows of a Carmelite hermit, not far from Pittsburgh. It was a wonderful occasion, to share the feast with this most prayerful and silent community. Please remember the newly professed monk Robert, and the community in your kind prayers.

On the feast of the Holy & Great Prophet, a wonderful Carmelite fell asleep in the Lord.
Father Roland Murphy, O.Carm., co-editor of the Jerome Biblical Commentary, and author of many books and articles on the Holy Scripture died at our monastery in Washington, D.C. Father was particularly noted for his interpretations and teachings about the prophetic and wisdom writings of the Old Testament.
Though a great scholar, he always seemed interested in the work and interests of "simple" and ordinary Carmelites too, and he will be much missed.
Please pray for his blessed respose. Funeral Liturgy will be in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, and again in Chicago at the Monastery in Darien on Wednesday.
May the Lord God grant to his servant, the priest monk Roland, blessed repose, where there is no pain sorrow or mourning, but only light and life everlasting! May his memory be eternal!

Yes, I loved reading Fr. Roland's commentaries and will pray for the repose of his soul.
May St Roland, scion of Charlemagne, intercede for his charge, Fr. Roland, and bring him to the Presence of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, in the company of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Sts. Elias and Eliseus, Sts. Brocard, Albert, John of the Cross, St Therese of Lisieux, St Teresa of Avila, Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity, St. Edith Steing, Simon Stock and all the Saints of Mt. Carmel!
