[I will turn the tables on you, dear Uncle, and ask why are the Romanovs worthy of veneration as Saints and Martyrs. Any verified miracles? Also how are we related to them?]
Daniil: The Romanovs were canonized as 'passion bearers' just like the first two saints of Rus - the brothers Boris & Gleb. It means that their humility and faith enabled them to accept their deaths in the realm of devout Christians just as the brothers Boris & Gleb did. They died with dignity and grace and a love for their God. And yes, there have been miracles attributed to them. In fact, there is a myrh streaming Icon of Tsar St Nicholas in Moscow.

Okay, the Tasr and his family are passion bearers. But I don't feel a particular attachment to their veneration. If I venerate Orthodox Saints, I will venerate ones to whom I have a particular devotion. You go ahead and venerate them particularly. I will not oppose their veneration.
I won't make you venerate St. Josaphat of Polotsk and you don't have to make me venerate the passion bearers Tsar Nicholas and his family. Deal?

My Dear Friends:
I have been following this discussion all day but I wouldn't dream of interveening in any way on so erudite a debate.
But I would like to present a little item I came across some years ago.
All things considered this is what does it for me.
Prayer of the Holy passion Bearer, Olga Nicolaievna in captivity
"Send us, Lord, the patience In this year of stormy, gloom-filled days, To suffer popular oppression And the tortures of our hangmen.
Give us strength, oh Lord of Justice, Our neighbours evil to forgive And the Cross so heavy and bloody With Thy humility to meet.
And in upheaval restless, In days when enemies rob us, To bear the shame and humiliation, Christ our Saviour, help us.
Ruler of the World, God of the Universe, Bless us with prayer. And give our humble soul rest In this unbearable, dreadful hour.
At the threshold of the grave Breath into the lips of Thy slaves Inhuman strength-
To pray meekly for Thy enemies."
HIH. Grand Duchess Olga Nicolaievna. Found in one of her books, written out in own her hand.
Ipatiev house, Ekaterinburg, July 14, 1918
Oh God Loving, Imperial Passion Bearers, Pray for those who call on thee.

Daniil: Can you point out what I said, or show me where I am pressuring you to venerate anyone including the Royal Martyrs? You asked a question and I replied to it giving web sites with resource material. As for myself. I have two beautiful Icons. One of the Royal Family and one of Tsar St Nicholas himself that are beautiful. However, they do not hang in my Icon corner. And believe me, you cannot make me venerate anyone. Especially Josaphat!

Dear Friends,
And to think that I used to have a problem with Ethipia's canonization of St Pontius Pilate . . .
The principle that has always been observed by the Apostolic Churches of Christ, as Fr. Serge Keleher also confirmed to me, is that we don't question each other's canonizations.
One is certainly not obligated to venerate any particular saint etc.
But we don't question the legitimacy of the canonization itself or the right of a Church to honour this or that saint.
I think that anyone not acquainted with the lives of the Romanovs would do well to get a hold of Robert Massie's book for some good summer reading (on the beach perhaps).
As for me, I have no doubt as to their sanctity.
If anyone might also feel that the Romanov Martyrs represent Russian imperialism etc., the fact is Nicholas II was the gentlest of all the Tsars, much maligned by the communists, but who was well loved by the people who kept his memory alive through their veneration.
I join with my Orthodox brother, Orthoman/OrthoDocs in praying:
Holy Royal Martyrs of Russia, pray unto God for us!

Dear friends,
I have read the websites posted by OrthoMan and I am now more convinced than ever of the sanctity of the Russian Royal Martyrs. Does anyone know of whence a (fairly inexpensive) Ikon of the Russian Royal Martyrs can be purchased? How about St. Nicholas II?
Is the cause of these holy people being brought up to Rome?

Dear Joe, The OCA website has their icon at www.oca.org. [ oca.org.] Jordanville has different sizes of their icon as well. You might want to contact DA ORTOMAN directly for his guidance and advice on this matter. He never disappoints, you know . . . The Royal Martyrs of Russia could eventually have their cult approved by Rome, as have other Orthodox Saints such as St. Gregory Palamas and most of the Saints of Russia (edict of 1904). Their would not be a formal canonization process etc. as they were Orthodox Christians and another principle followed by the Apostolic Churches is that they don't "poach" each other's saints (although they could receive their cult). Joe:
I have posted a website where you can get an Icon of the Royal Family. If you are looking for an inexpensive Icon of the Tsar alone, send me an email with your email address. I have one that was given to me as a gift. It is from Russia and beautiful and inexpensive. I know the lady who runs our church bookstore can get one exacly like it. But, unfortunately, she has left for Florida and the OCA Sobor. Won't be back for two weeks. The one I am talking about is probably the nicest I've seen. So, if you are willing to wait until she comes back, and send me your email address I will get the info for you and email it back to you.

Dear Joe, Isn't Orthoman simply, well, "Ortho-whelming?" A gentleman and a scholar to boot! Alex

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Thank you all for posting on this subject of the new martyrs and passion bearers.
May I cautiously remind all participants in the "prayer" section of this board, that this area is reserved for prayers, and requests for prayers, and comments of prayerful support. More general conversations and discussions (even saintly ones) belong in those areas of the forum dedicated to news and Church life!
Thank you!
