Apparently, the "priest" in question is only 29; what a geronta/staretz! So, he's young, acting without episcopal permission, and leading a bunch of nuns: sounds like a case of "prelest" (spiritual delusion), a cult, and a recipe for disaster! He also is unrepentant and shows no remorse over this poor woman's death. eek

Here are a couple more news stories:

Any chance it could be an 'urban legend' and not true? Let's hope so.

A little research shows it is wide spread in the news - like wild fire - but that is not an indication that the everything about the news report is accurate. Especially when it comes to anything like this.

There is probably something to it - but exactly what - remains a question. It doesn't seem good at all. A pity that one wacko can tarnish so much.

Thanks everyone for your insights. When I read this, I knew something was seriously wrong. No right minded Orthodox priest would crucify a nun. Now it makes sense, he acts without permission from the bishop an is a sort of "renegade."

Now, I am not supporting this priest and convent in any way, but one of the supporters of them has posted their side of the story and I thought it only fair to post a link to it: http://members5.boardhost.com/STANDREWHOUSE/msg/66610.html

Whichever story is true the priest still did the wrong thing. He had no business tying her up or withholding food and water from her, period.
