Is anyone from the forum attending the institute in Milwaukee at the end of June?

http://www.metropolitancantorinstitute.org/

I will be travelling there with my family and one other cantor from my parish. It would be great to connect with some "byzcath" folks.

Peace,

Gordo

I just removed the website article that is referred to above, so to recap:

The National Association of Pastoral Musicians (which over the past few years has been showing a lot more respect for traditional Church music...) is holding its national convention this year in Milwaukee, from June 27 to July 1. As part of the conference, a four-day Eastern Christian Musician's Institute is being held. The Institute is being taught by (among others) Father Peter Galadza and Professor Michael Thompson; there are separate practicum sessions in Ruthenian prostopinije and Ukrainian samoilka. (Go to http://www.npm.org/EducationEvents/convention/Milwaukee/institutes.htm and look down the page on the right.)

In addition to you, Gordo, I know at least one other forum poster who is planning to be there.

Unfortunately, there is no longer a single hotel room to be had in Milkwaukee at this point. But I'm looking forward to some reports on how it goes, and I hope to see continued exposure for Eastern Christian music at these conferences in the future!

Yours in Christ,
Jeff Mierzejewski

Jeff, it's about time. This is the organization largely responsible for trashing music in the Latin Church in the first place. I guess the pendulum has to swing the other way eventually.

Fr. Peter Galadza is always worth the price of admission - with his sharp wit, incredible liturgical insights, and voice, it will be an unforgettable experience if anyone has the chance. I speak from experience. smile

I was able to reserve a hotel room at the Courtyard by Marriott at $118 per night. My family and I have decided instead to go camping approximately 30 miles north of Milwaukee, so it should be a fun experience. Since I may have the last hotel room available in Milwaukee, if anyone is interested, PM me and maybe then I can transfer the reservation.

I too am looking forwrad to meeting Father Peter. I have heard wonderful things about him as well from friends.

Dear Diak,

Fr. Peter Galadza is related to me by marriage!

Just so you know, the truth is that everything he knows about theology and liturgy . . . he learned himself . . . wink

One of his brothers lives in Miami and I came across him quite by accident . . .

"Galadza" (if you need to know wink ) is "Galicia" in Romanian . . .

Alex
