Gaudior, irked, but not startled, by this latest attack on morality and the Catholic Church

This is an outrage! How can the Shephard lead, when he appears lost himself? Forgive me if I am stepping on toes, and I mean no disrespect, but for a person of position to state the Holy Word of God (and Genesis is the book that all Jews use in the Torah also) is not true is IMHO presumptuous <sp>, regardless of who you are, and for a bishop to do it... (Guadior, what is the opposite of Axios in Greek?) My favorite quote of the article:
Quote
"But all that stuff in the Garden of Eden with the magic fruit and talking snake? Not true, apparently - just a bit of fun."
What is next? Stating Our Lord God and Savior took a wife? Mary Magdelane?

Lord have mercy upon us all!

Dear Lost and Found,

The opposite of Axios is Anaxios.

Well if you think about it, what does the darkness of this world try to do. It counterfits with the opposite view of Christ and his Church. Pope Bendict said a few weeks ago, "Assiduous reading of sacred Scripture accompanied by prayer makes that intimate dialogue possible in which, through reading, one hears God speaking, and through prayer, one responds with a confident opening of the heart. If this practice is promoted with efficacy, I am convinced that it will produce a new spiritual springtime in the Church." Then right afterwards appears that STUPID announcement by those bishops.

They and so are many others are too busy in this secularized world to read the Bible. They will read what others say or think, or some hermaneutics which is way out if left field without actually sitting down and letting the Word of God speak to them personaly. If they do that they have to be accountable, obedient, take responcibility. Because it they did it for guidance, they would never make statements like they have.

It really irks me, the Church is relling from all the nonsence that occured a few years back, and now a really DUMB AND OBNOXIOUS statement like this. Scripture says spare the rod and spoil the child, well it is as if those bishops are patting people on the head saying go ahead you don't really have to believe the Word of God. They are just giving into the world.

The end of Revelations 22:
16
"I, Jesus, sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, 10 the bright morning star."
17
The Spirit and the bride 11 say, "Come." Let the hearer say, "Come." Let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving water.
18
I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book,
19
and if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this book.
20
12 The one who gives this testimony says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
21
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.

God have mercy on their souls and bring them to repentance to work for the speading of the fullness of the Gospel. Amen

Everyone is well advised not to attempt to learn their religion, whatever it may be, from secular publications. If one wanted to study Communism, one would not begin with the Catholic Encyclopedia.

Even St. Augustine Questioned how could God "walk" with Adam (Genesis) if He was a Spirit?

I will never forget the shock I felt when my daughter came home from sophomore religion class at her Roman Catholic Academy run by sisters, telling me that the teacher told them that they shouldn't take everything in the Bible literally.

It seems to me that such nonsense comes about from people that have too little faith and too much time to think about such matters. frown

It is literally a case of a country not knowing right from wrong. And yet, we rely on the government to teach our children.

Actually, Father Anthony, I suspect she'd be the first to agree with me!

BTW, she recently told me that the candles she lit for us at Lourdes are still burning.

Gaudior, who will draw her attention to the article.

Wait a second, folks!

Now, I too thought it was incorrect to interpret all of the Bible literally. After all, we are not fundamentalists who must believe in seven days of Creation, etc.

All of the Bible is true, but not all of it is literal.

Dear Teen,

Well that may be easy for you to say. Mother Angelica called it Bible Roulette. Sit down and try it sometime, then tell me if it is literal or not.

Bible Roulette would of course not be easy for an individual. Fortunately Christ gave us the church - which has not, AFAIK, taught a fundamentalist, literal reading of all of the scripture. The Scotsman seems oddly slow to recognize this.
