It is hard to attend a liturgy when you don't even know that one is available or when it is held. Will you please help me in getting the basic info (name, address, phone, rite, liturgy/service times, parish website, etc) into various computer databases?

Thanks, Carson! If you have any extra time on your hands, could you also check on those parishes around you?

I noticed that MassTimes does not have an option for Byzantine or Ruthenian under their search for Rite, but they do have Ukrainian. Perhaps they need to hear from the people.

Does anyone know who might have already started working on an updated database so that efforts are not duplicated?

Is the unoffical directory of Eastern Catholic churches still updating it's info?

I have tried emailing them before and it always gets returned.

It is my understanding that the info has not been updated in several years but that many people had a desire to update it. I'm sure someone has a half-finished database sitting on his computer somewhere. If we all pitch in to cover a state or two, it could be finished in a day.

How would we do that?

That's a good question. We need a way for people to change the info directly instead of one person being sent everything and having to enter it all. Anyone more web savvy than me know the easiest way to do it?

It would be nice to have something like masstimes.org, where you can update info yourself.

BTW, does anyone know how I can make my avatar smaller? I feel like I am dominating the page.

What about making a Wiki? How does that work?

Edit: I already have an offer from someone to host it. I'll try to figure it out and get back soon.

For your icon, you can resize it by hosting it on http://imageshack.us/ Just upload it and resize it to Avatar.

Through the gracious benevolence of another forum member, the Wiki is now in place. I've added a little bit, but not much. But if we all pitch in for a state or two, it could be finished in no time!

Some things I want to add include all the Eastern Catholic parishes and missions, websites, liturgy times, rite, language spoken, and so one. I copied the ByzCath page on Byzantine Institutions, but I'd like to expand that to all Eastern Catholic institutions. If you know some, please start a new page for them. With all of us working jointly on the same page, we should be able to have the premier, authoratative guide to the Eastern Catholic churches finished (and up to date) in no time!

Please add or edit things as you see fit.

makes a line break
[URLaddress URLname] makes a link
[[Title]] makes a new page or links to an existing one
== Title == makes a heading
=== Title === makes a subheading

And if you don't want to mess with formatting, then just enter the basic information and someone else can come along and spruce it up. 10 minutes of your time could really do a lot!

We now have 7 parishes in the database. Thank you to the people who have helped so far! I will keep adding more, but would appreciate any more assistance you can give.

I was going to copy and paste all the churches from the Stamford Diocese - (whew) But it would be just easier to just link!

http://www.stamforddio.org/parishes.htm

All the info is there.
Address, phone number, Liturgy time, website if there is one, language of service (right most of the time LOL), priest name, etc.
Even a picture of the church!
