I've recently been put in charge of the gift shop at my church, and would like to stock prayer ropes and prayer beads in addition to the rosaries.
Unfortunately, while rosaries are easy to find and you can buy large quantities for low prices - or even get them free! - prayer ropes/beads are another story. I have no trouble finding them at retail prices but wonder if there's a source for buying them in quantities, just like the rosaries.
Is it just because the rosary is more heavily promoted, and therefore more easily available?
Any suggestions? I thought seriously about learning to make them myself, and I think I could make the prayer beads, but the ropes seem a lot more complex. Should I just get used to the concept of buying them, one at a time?

I am delighted to hear that you are considering having prayer ropes available in the parish! Well done. Promoting the praying of the 'Jesus Prayer' is ministry in itself.
One thought, if I may....
A Roman rosary may be constructed in under an hour, some are made 'in bulk' by machine. A prayer rope takes many hours, often done by monastics, as an obedience, during the evening, after a long day's work, and after praying all of the offices of the Church.
If you are stocking your Church shop, please explain that there are monks and nuns who support themselves by manual work. My experience is that people are quite happy to support the work of monastics, if they know what is involved, and how these prayer ropes are made. In buying one from a monastery, made by monastics, they are supporting this important way of life in our Church, and also, in some way, taking part in the blessings of monastic prayer (the monks and nuns pray silently while making them).
People will be quite generous, if they understand who made them.
The Carmelite nuns make them, carefully and prayerfully. But it is best not to ask about discounts or bulk orders. If you would like I can provide their address.

Thanks, I would appreciate that. Yet another interesting difference between East and West, I guess!
