Does anyone have any news on the Holy Transfiguration/Mt. Tabor Ukr. Catholic Monastery in Redwood, CA?

I have been out of California the past few years, so I would really like to know what's going on up there. The last major news I heard was the death of the Abbot, Hieromonk Boniface.

Does anyone know how many monks they have?

Have any of you every visited?

I think it is important to keep our monastics and their monasteries in our prayers.

Also, I think it is unfortunate that I have *never* heard anything about any of the monasteries mentioned in the parishes I have attended. I would love to see a special collection made to help support them.

Anyways, just curious.

Visited several times while Abbot Boniface was still alive; haven't been since he retired to Belgium and reposed. I believe Abbot Joseph (Homick) is still the Abbot.

Fr. Deacon,

How many monks were there at the time of your visits?

Mt. Tabor Monastery does have its own website at www.byzantines.net/monastery/ [byzantines.net]

You can read their current newsletter and as well as past issues to find out what the monks have been up to.

I think about 12-15 including novices, postulants and aspirants.

The last time I was up at Mt. Tabor was several months ago when I went to change a dressing for one of the monks. Did not at that time see anyone else. Indeed, Fr. Joseph is still abbot. There is a new shrine for our Blessed Lady, Theotokos, replacing the old one and on the same site next to the cemetery where we have 2 baby girls buried.
I don't think there are more than 10 monks at the moment--one just recently vested and vowed if I am not mistaken. Don't know about postulants or novices. I think they are rather scarce in that neck of the woods.
Sorry I can't offer more news for you.
Blessings
Alice
