I have heard a similar report on this on BBC Radio along with Vatican Radio. Open Season on Christianity [ zenit.org] In IC XC, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Agreed - I keep forgetting that my back only bends in 1 direction - I'm fed up with going 'OUCH " when I try and bend over backwards

This is a sign of the times.
Is it the End Times?
At least I think it is a return to our first 300 years of existence. I think we will be forced underground. As the Holy Father has written, there will be a "downsizing" of the numbers of members in the Church. But those who stay will be the Holy ones and live the Gospel. In turn as in the first 300 years people will be converted by our lifestyles.

Gaudior,
You won't offend me. I've probably thought the same things. Lord have mercy!

Well you lot would be no good in Limbo competitions. That recent TV episode mocking the Mother of God picked up some strange fellow travellers who thought it demeaned women. One was the PM herself of NZ. We always live in the End Times. It has always been open season on Christians and always will be. It's like the poor who will always be with us, or war and talk of war. I have often wondered if getting a reaction is sometimes a cheap form of advertising that some actively seek. If we refused to acknowlege these provocations and ignored them would they give up and get a real job. I noticed recently with the movie on the gay cowboys that first news I heard was that 2 bishops had critisied the film and then in later news it was the Catholic bishops who were making comment on the film, no mention at this stage that is was only 2 of them. It was all good advertising for the movie and it was all good stuff for them the way the news was presented. No need to let facts get in the way of a good story. ICXC NIKA

I think we have been in the "end time" for over two thousand years...since the time Jesus walked the earth. Indeed, it is a long 'end time' and it may be much longer...
After I read the article above...I remembered these scriptures from The Letter of Jude in the New Testament especially regarding scoffers.
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; they said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions." It is these who set up divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God; wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. " Jude: 18-21 [RSV]
In Christ,
Porter

Unfortunately, blasphemy is so commonplace on television nowdays, that most of it probably goes unnoticed.

There have been critics of Christianity pretty much since Christianity has been around; from Celsus to Reimarus to Nietzsche to Dawkins. That Chrisianity is despised by the "tolerant" focused secular west is probably to its credit. You could probably say we're almost counter cultural now, which is how the church itself started. This is more of an aside, but I saw this article [ orthodoxytoday.org] today, and in many ways I think accurately outlines what the potential fate may be of the church's most outspoken detractors.
