As for the sword thing, I'm still uncomfortable with the whole concept - and I AM familiar with the vestment/sword. I still chuckle when I hear the old Anglican hymn: "Onward, Christian Soldiers!!" I can just hear Jesus singing right along; along with the pacifist martyrs of the first centuries who absolutely refused to fight back when being taken by the Roman government for being subversives. Wimps.

Blessings!!
Dr. John-

I believe "Onward Christian Soldiers" may have more to do with spiritual combat rather then actual war.

Just a thought...

I'm glad to see you posting on this thread! The big question: when is the new season of Light of the East going to air? I seem to recall you filming it several months back.

Dear Dr. John,

And His Beatitude is so photogenic after all! wink

Patriarch Husar shows that even though he is from across the pond, he can be with us here in the joy of new episcopal consecrations et al.

He really does prove wrong the views of those who believe that a truly North American-based Church cannot be related to an ancient Christian primatial See, such as Kyiv is.

More on the Knights of Columbus and our Eastern Catholic Churches: During the past 50 years the K of C has been EXTREMELY generous to our churches. In several communities in the south and west the K of C Council Hall was the initial liturgy site for new Byzantine Catholic parishes.
The K of C has always been a great source of financial support for many new Byzantine communities. At least five priests of the Pittsburgh Byzantine Catholic archeparchy are chaplains to K of C councils. (And in the current political spirit these councils are all diversified, meaning they include Catholics of all Churches). The Ukrainians are especially visible in the K of C; at least 40 councils in Canada and the USA are affiliated with Ukrainian parishes. The K of C represents the universal Catholic Church, not just its Latin half.
