We are having one of our largest blizzards in years here in the New York and North East, (Boston, Washington D.C.) and all Church services are cancelled. Our local Westchester station has been reading hundreds of names of churches, temples, and synagogues. I think this is the first time I remember Sunday morning being so bad that Divine Liturgy is cancelled. frown

Alice, snowed in and waiting for it to stop.
(after the warmest January EVER, this is old man winter's revenge!)

Alice,

When I woke up this morning at 9:30, which I usually do to go to DL at 10:30, I went to look outside to see how bad it looks, and I was confused for a split second as why I couldn't see outside, then I realized my window was covered by snow!!

I knew this one would be bad, but as a transplant from the West Coast, I have never seen anything like this.

I went to DL yesterday morning because I knew I wouldn't make it today. The priest said that he will have DL for people who live across the street from the church, but there is no way I can drive. My car is buried at knee-deep level and its still snowing down here.

But on mornings like this, coffee has never tasted better cool

Alice,

Good news and bad news. The snow should be tapering off in a few hours. That was the good news. Then we have to get shovelled out. Now that is the bad news frown .

Alice

We have a problem here frown

Gaudior did not mention as to whether it was liquid Chocolate [ and therefore most unlikely to be that which is extolled by the Dessert Fathers , since it would be mixed with the white liquid forbidden to us at certain times of the year smile ] or the other variety which we all really appreciate - the bar of really dark brown, glorious, satisfying FOOD

WOW! Snow and lots of it!

Here in our neck of the desert, we go without any type of percipitation for over 118 days (a new record). I think we experienced winter sometime after Christmas... for about a week. Temperatures last week were as high as the low 80's. The forecast for the week calls for highs in the mid to upper 70's and still no rain.

I've actually added a petition for rain in the litanies.

The dance of 'we did not get much snow' must be similar to snoopy's 'dance of joy' and just as eligant.

Keep nice and warm folks.

Deacon John, I might come out and set up a tent in your neck of the woods. I don't know what I'd do with myself and those high tempatures. Fish maybe... ahh the possibilities are endless.

Deacon John,

I am sure that Alice, myself and any others from the Northeast would love to send you some of the snow we shovelled this afternoon. Why should we have all the fun biggrin ?

Father Anthony+

Deacon John,

Thanks for adding that petition. It did rain here part of one day this past week, but generally dusty, dry, and high fire hazard in our area. Rain is needed!

I remember a few decades ago when a wedding was set for our parish on a Saturday when the heavens dumped large quantities of snow on us. The police, bless them, brought the priest and the other, ah, dramatis personae to church in special vehicles for use in heavy snow. The wedding was a bit rarified, but surely unforgettable!

THE BLONDE AND THE LORD

A blonde wanted to go ice fishing. She'd seen many books on the subject
and finally getting all the necessary tools together, she headed for the
ice.

After positioning her comfy footstool, she started to make a circular
cut in the ice. Suddenly, from the sky, a voice boomed,

"THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE."

Startled, the blonde moved further down the ice, poured a thermos of
cappuccino, and began to cut yet another hole. Again from the heaven
the voice bellowed,

"THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE."

The blonde, now worried, moved away, clear down to the opposite end of
the ice. She set up her stool once more and tried again to cut her hole.

The voice came once more,

"THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE."

She stopped, looked skyward, and said,

"IS THAT YOU LORD?"

The voice replied,

"NO, THIS IS THE MANAGER OF THE HOCKEY RINK."

Y'all don't drink too much cocoa or over do anything physical- thinking you are mighty mites with snow shovels. I know all the kids are saying thank you to Jesus and can't wait to get the sleds out. Stay warm and safe with God!
