Aloha again Ohana,

Here is another article for today. The article is very interesting...but I wonder if anyone would agree with the conclusion of Mr. Weyrich.

To end the schism: the Pope's unfulfilled wish

Paul Weyrich
April 11, 2005

So much has been said about the accomplishments of Pope John Paul II that I felt it useful to comment on one initiative about which he felt very strongly but which did not bear fruit, his effort to achieve unity with the Eastern Orthodox Church. The official biographer of the Pope, George Weigel (who was an NBC commentator for the Papal Funeral), told me years ago when he regularly traveled between Washington and Rome that John Paul II was "virtually obsessed with trying to achieve unity with the Orthodox

Interesting article... Pope John Paul the Great did a GREAT deal to bring Catholic & Orthodox closer, and I am sorry that he never got the chance to visit Russia. IMO, the MP's demands and prerequisites were excessive.

I am sorry that the world has lost such a great peacemaker and bridgebuilder. I dearly hope the next Pontiff is every bit as motivated and skilled WRT healing the Schism, but that would be a tall order. I'll be praying during the Conclave that the Holy Spirit guides the election of a Pope who will indeed see reconciliation occur during his Pontificate.

Well , it would be nice to see more Orthodox Hiarch or local clergies moving toward ecumenism like our Great Pontiff.

Unfortunately, currently there is no visible Orthodox Hiarch that are really moving toward in that direction. Orthodox need to be more inclusive and more interested with local community so that we can all bridge ecumenism easily. Isolationist will do no good for the Orthodox Church.
