My bishop has requested that I write an icon of "the Journey to Bethlehem", and I am in need of some good byzantine models.
The 2 I have found so far, they are both old mosaics, that show the Theotokos pregnant on a donkey that is either lead or trailed by St. Joseph (one with St. James too).
Does anyone know where I could find more models?

I have a Christmas card (sorry I can't share it over the internet) of Mary on the donkey with her arm around Joseph's shoulder and an angel in front leading the donkey while gazing back at Mary.
I'll keep looking to see if I can find one on-line.

Thank-you. These are also helpful, but I am looking for icons of the "Journey to Bethlehem" which is similar but not the same as "the Flight to Egypt". The main difference is that the Mother of God is pregnant, and Jesus therefore is not being carried (outside her womb).
The one that 'Micael-Thoma' sent from Chora is the right one, however it is one of the 2 I already had.
If I can't find a good model, perhaps (with the blessing of my bishop) I will have to use a "Flight to Egypt" model and change it a bit. oy...
Any comments or advice on this??? How can I make Mary look pregnant respectfully???
Kadylo
P.S. If you find anything else, (either "Journey" or "Flight" icons) please keep sending them. I found the last one that was sent extremely beautiful, and perhaps I will use it as my primary model.

Continued from the last message:
Theologically, would it be appropriate for the Theotokos to be looking at her belly, contemplating God??? Or where would her gaze be directed?

Would it be wrong in such an icon to include Christ shown in a mandorla ("in the womb" so to speak) as in the Mother of God of the Sign?

Dave Dave-- A few years ago at the MMA in NYC, as part of the Glory of Byzantium exhibit (not the last one), I saw an Annunciation series that had Christ painted in a mandorla, VERY FAINTLY, in white paint on the stomach of the Theotokos in the portion of the icon that showed her after she gave her consent to Gabriel. It was shocking to see, but most beautiful. I stood there for a long time looking at it. John (who found it extremely difficult to not venerate the many icons in each of the exhibits!)
