New web-site for the Catholic Bishop's Conference of India; it includes all three of the sui iuris Churches.

The Indian Catholic [theindiancatholic.com]

It has a lot of interesting material, including a nice section on Indian candidates for sainthood. The space allocated to the Syro-Malabarese and Syro-Malankarese is a bit on the short side, although they are discussed fairly extensively in some of the historical pieces. "Church" and "Rite" are interchanged a bit loosely (a topic regarding which I wrote to the webmaster biggrin ).

Many years,

Neil

A very nice website.

BRAVEO TO THAT DIOCESE! You sure don't find very many that recognize all the rites of the church, East or West, on their web pages.

I am very impressed. Within a few hours after e-mailing the spokesman/webmaster of the Bishop's Conference with regard to a broken link, the Rite/Church distinction, and another terminology issue, I received a very cordial e-mail back from Father Joseph (the spokesman). In it, Father thanked me for taking the time to read the site, for my compliments, for pointing out the link, and promised to review the terminology used in respect to the Eastern Churches.

Dear Neil:

Thanks for this info.

I used to "argue" in another website that the Catholic Church in India is a model of East/West cooperation.

With the Pope's approval and encouragement, I think the CBCI has begun implementing the "rule" that diocesan authority resides in the Bishop whose faithful among the 3 rites is the largest.

Did you know that the immediate past President of the Episcopal Conference was a Syro-Malankara hierarch and, if I am not mistaken, was Archbishop Cyril Mar Baselios of Trivandrum, now still in office as the 2nd Vice President of the CBCI?

This is how it should be in all of the world's national episcopal conferences, I think.

Amado
