Are there any Eastern Catholic colleges or universities in the US? I am curious if there are, since I may become Eastern Catholic.
Thank you!

A very fine Eastern Catholic College will inaugurate in the fall of 2006 in Aurora, Illinois. Just another effort in part by Annunciation Church. An Evangelical vision does work and it does inspire people to step forward to do the work of the Lord.

Thanks!
When you say inaugurate in Fall 2006, do you mean it will open in Fall 2006?

Thanks again! Looks like it will be a good school. Do I have to be Eastern Catholic to go there? Im discerning becoming Eastern Catholic, and really feel pulled in that direction, but I may not be officially EC by the time I could go to school there. Nice part is, I graduate from High school in May 2006, and it opens Fall 2006

Andrew,
I don't believe you do. I know most of the people who are forming this college. I believe they intend it to be open to all. But it will be a thoroughgoing Eastern Christian experience.

Drew, the Sheptytsky Institute of St. Paul's University in Ottawa, Ontario has a fully accredited program in Eastern Christian Studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty are brilliant and include both Eastern Catholic and Orthodox clergy. They have a website at http://web.ustpaul.uottawa.ca/Sheptytsky/ These are some of the most top-notch liturgical and theological minds in our Church presently.

Scranton and Fordham both had some sort of Eastern Christian study programs but I don't know if these are still in existence.

The Pope John XXIII Russian Catholic Center at Fordham University moved to the University of Scranton becoming the Center for Eastern Christian Studies. From the University's site: The Center for Eastern Christian Studies at The University of Scranton serves as a focal point for academic, pastoral and ecumenical activities designed to promote knowledge and understanding of the Christian East. The Center houses the Byzantine Rite Chapel, a library of 15,000 books and a rare book collection, as well as staff offices and a lecture/social hall. For additional information call The University of Scranton's Center for Eastern Christian Studies at (570) 941-6116. They have a website: http://nyssa.cecs.uofs.edu But it hasn't been updated for a while and a search of the University theology department reveals only three courses are offered in Eastern Christianity and Fr. Thomas Sable SJ is the only Byzantine priest on the faculty.

All, Manor College in Jenkintown, PA is run by the Sisters of St. Basil the Great (Ukrainian Catholic) so I am guessing that would count as an Eastern institution? I may be wrong though-any thoughts? ProCatholico

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Doesn't Duquesne University in Pittsburgh have a reciprocal program with our seminary? I thought Duquesne students could take seminary courses for full credit, and that our seminarians could likewise take university courses for full credit.
I have not heard very many details on this, though.

Fr. Deacon El, Yes, one can earn a MA in Theology from Duquesne University taking 6 of 10 courses at the Byzantine Catholic Seminary and the remaining 4 at Duquesne. The Seminary is now also able to grant a MA in Theology on its own. http://www.byzcathsem.org/seminary/degree.php Fr. Deacon Lance

Does anyone know where one can pursue an S.T.L. (Licentiate in Sacred Theology) in Eastern Theology or a J.C.L. (Licentiate in Canon Law) in Eastern Canon Law? The educational institution would have to have a pontifical charter, I believe. I know of only the following possibilities: - The Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome offers both an S.T.L. in Eastern Theology and a J.C.L. in Eastern Canon Law.
- The Sheptytsky Institute at St. Paul University in Ottawa offers an M.Th./S.T.L. in Eastern Christian Studies.
- I believe there is at least one institution in Kerala, India that offers an S.T.L. in Eastern Theology (and perhaps also a J.C.L. in Oriental Canon Law)
Does anyone here know of any other institutions that offer these degrees? Thank you! Peace, Alex NvV
