In comparison to this reality series some here may have seen a realty t.v. series last fall called, "Amish in the City." in which some young Amish adults moved to the city to live with very secular city kids for six weeks.
The interacting was interesting to watch. In the end the Amish kids (all but one who was on the fence more or less) decided to not return to Amish country and the Amish way of life.
However, their wholesome values had made an impression on the city kids although none of them joined the Amish.

Mary Jo: "Wierd Al" Yankovic, an "infamous" singer-actor-composer, made the music video "Amish Paradise," which was a spoof to Coolio's "Gangsta Paradise." The lyrics are all over the Internet and it is, in itself, also a parody of the Amish life: their medieval religious piety, sex life (?), and their daily chores, bordering on ennui! Amado

Mary Jo is out west. She's probably never even heard an accordian. As far as the sex life of the Amish goes, I suspect it exists. Don't you? :p

Dan L Dan, Funneee. Just for the record - even though I live out here in the wild, wild, West. we do have accordians. Some of my friends play them, but I do admit I play an electronic keyboard. As for the sex life of the Amish...won't go there cause don't have a clue. Bless you.... Mary Jo

a lot of Amish families have a large number of children, guess how that happens. yep, I reckon Amish folks have a full sex life.  Much Love, Jonn uh, that's love in the usual sense, not a reflection on me and ...........never mind.

I have to say this, I don't have cable TV anymore because I was in reality "sick" of the Reality TV shows. However, upon reading the beginning of this topic, if TV is going to start visiting monasteries and convents, I may have to call my local cable company. Most people go to the beach or travel to a big city, when my son and I go on vacation for a week, we do go to a monastery and it is most refreshing and spiritually uplifting.

And truly the greatest reality programing recently has been all about the Catholic Chruch. The WORLD saw the fullness of the Church in it's beauty. So many millions of people witnessed the reality of the Mass, they heard the words spoken. I have to say I truly miss turning on the TV and not being able so see instant coverage of Chruch no matter where you turned. Thank you Jesus!

Paul Paul, Amen to that! I did the same thing only went to a retreat house for a weekend and spent time walking and in silent prayer to discern whether I should marry the guy or not. I did decide he was the one. That was over forty years ago which have been spent through trial and triumph and growing together in faith. Have children and now grandchildren. Bless you, Mary Jo

What an awesome witness of listening to God's call on vocations. Your faith would have been wonderful together, but you both gave such awesome testimony to God's love an in very diffenent ways. Both building the Kingdom of God abundantly. Jo all the lives you have been able to touch as a professor with your faith over the years. You know - look at how often we reflect on our teachers and say this one is the reason why.... Maybe when you approach the Throne of Grace there will be many standing there saying she is the reason why... Well I didn't stop and listen as Jo and Paul did. Unfortunately that is not something Southen Baptists aren't or weren't taught to do. However, celebrating 36 years of marriage this year, never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought of becoming a Catholic - thank God, Jesus knew - that took a lot of solitude and prayer 25 years ago, now Stan is a deacon. God sure has a wonderful sence of humor doesn't he . That in itself has been our second marriage, taking our lives and famiy to the Church. The two shall become one, then the oneness is completed in the quietness of the faithful love of Christ. That is where reality truly lies Pani Rose
