Hello smile my beloved "Biz" brethren in Risen Christ,

I thought to ask you for sharing about your hobbies, little passions that fill your free time and are good for you.

What are your hobbies?

For now, I do share a wee bit about what I use to do in my free time, serious or just for fun.

First of all, I love to solve mathematics problems, I have a special faiblesse for prime numbers and geometry. I think that mathematics are a proof that God exist. Eyes must be open, heart should feel.

Also I have a keystation and I truly enjoy playing Bach. You know those little preludes or fugues from the Well-tempered clavecin? A gift from God, for any soul. At this keyboard, using software on computer, I may use almost any instrument, as Church organ, or clavecin, piano, flute etc. I play just for fun, for enjoying a good time, alone or with a few souls. Personally, I have a voice comparable to that of a mule, I just torture the keyboard, voice is not proper to sing. smile

Other two "little passions" are GO, ancient board game and writing haiku. Most of haiku are about Christ and Christian life.

So my friends in Christ, please, share about your hobbies, what enjoy your soul, besides prayer and Church, what keep you on the floating line. Thank you.

All is a matter of love and this love is our true heritage. Put in your soul this, once again, and know God. Knowing God is eternal life.

May God anoint your souls with mercy and peace. Amin!

Marian,

Beautiful post ! Mathematics is the meter of a poem called universe. And if there is a poem, there must be a Poet . . .

You definitely have a mathematical mind if you enjoy Bach, Go and haiku. God be praised !

Merry Christmas.

Have you tried sodoku? I have friends who are almost addicted to the game! http://www.websudoku.com/ The point is for every row, every column, and every 3x3 square to contain all the digits from 1-9.

You'd probably also like mahjong. I prefer playing it in person instead of on the computer.

I like games that use words instead of numbers. I have to limit my time playing Text Twist [zone.msn.com].

My wife and I play Text Twist together, she does the little words while I try to figure out the one big one that allows the player to advance to the next round.

Marian, my only downfall in academics was mathematics. Even though I have had over 3 years of calculus in my academic career, it never stuck with me. And I always got Bs and Cs in any math class. So keep up the good work, math is the key to the universe.

My hobbies include quality time with my wife (even if it's dong the dishes!) playing with my kids, theology, philosophy, herbalism, acupuncture, oriental medical theory, singing, and used to include the guitar. Last year when I started the advanced acupuncture class, the professor told us that anyone who played the guitar had to give it up, as the callouses interfered with pulse diagnosis. I was literally sick sick over the news that I would have to give up something that was a part of who I was for 17 years. My mentor and clinical director Marcy Goldstein MD told me that I could diagnose with only my right hand and still play but it wasn't the same, so I finally gave it up. frown

Good topic, Marian!

I suppose that one could call participating on Byzcath a hobby! smile

Another hobby of mine is taking walks with my husband and dog--though she is now old and doesn't like taking walks anymore. frown

Hobbies? I think I recall what those are....

My big hobbie is Star Wars. I cannot claim to be a collector, but I do try to keep up with purchasing the novels and comics that are still coming out. Now actually READING them, that's another story. I am up to date with the comics, but not nearly there with the novels.

More than things about Star Wars, I am a fan of people and Star Wars is just a good excuse. About 8 years ago I founded a Star Wars Fan Club in Guadalajara, well, I left then almost 7 years ago and they are still thriving and keeping the spirit of friendship and mutual care I wanted for the group.

Regardless of distance, I still count some of the members of that club among my dearest friends and I know for a fact they think the same way. Just last May, I traveled to Guadalajara to be "Padrino" (Sponsor, Godfather) of one of them at his wedding.

My wife gave me a Lego Set to build a Star Destroyer (you remember, the big triangular ships from the Empire). It is a little over 3,000 pieces and I am about half way through it.

Fun stuff, these Legos. I suggested to use Legos as an analogy for building up the Church during our most recent Time and Talent fair at the parish and it was quite sucessful.

Finding time for hobbies is rare and precious in these hectic times, but I think our minds need this kind of stuff to take some distance from or worries.

My hobbies are running (I like 10-milers, half marathons, and marathons best); weight pentathlon (shotput, discus, weight throw, hammer throw, and javelin); and painting and writing poetry when the spirit moves me. I also serve on a couple boards of community organizations - neighborhood, sports, and conservation oriented groups, mostly. (Franciscans are conservation oriented as you might guess.)

Hello

Mine has caused a great problem for my brother if I die first.

I write pysanky and to date there are "many X many" in boxes and cartons. It is the most relaxing thing I do. Imagine if you will, Theology on an egg shell. But sometimes, when I look at some of my eggs I think Heresy!!!!!!!" I am sure that baba would give me a "tarakh" on the side of the head.

Now the problem.
Feduja, my brother, said that I shall need a double plot! One for me and one for all of the cartons of pysanky!!!!! Now I don't have to tell you how expensive a plot is.

What a wonderful gift!

I have a suggestion. If you do nothing with them before then, why not use them as your memorial card? Then every Pascha a little reminder of you will go to Church biggrin

Dear Garajotsi,

A couple of observations on my part. As Pani Rose stated, it is truly a gift to be able to create Pysanky. I know of very few that truly devote any effort to it, and admire those that are blessed do it well and have a passion learning how to do it and then for doing it.

Now for an answer to your dilemma regarding your brother, and I really would not repeat it to him. You are the one in the end that really is not paying for the plot unless you purchase it while you still alive, so let it be his concern and where the funds for the second plot will come from. grin Maybe then he might take more of an appreciation of your gift and then not be too much in a hurry to bury them, but rather share them with all.

Just a thought there.

Well....

I have to admit, I'm a big fan of the cinema. I especially tend to like WWII movies...

My other hobbies (apart from ByzCath, which could be a FT profession!) include WWII gaming, especially the "Medal of Honor" series, swimming, playing with my kids, hiking when we can and biking, which I have missed since moving to New England. (We have to put our bikes on a rack and drive somewhere to bike - otherwise, we would be killed trying to get anywhere!)

Travel used to be more of a hobby, now it is just "work". I am looking forward, though, to traveling with my family over the Christmas holiday in a non-work related way...

Camping and kayaking is also a favorite of mine.

And, of course, baseball with my family in the backyard. The neighbors actually sit on the porch and watch us play. It ain't Yankee Stadium, but in the back of my mind I hear them yelling, "Reggie! Reggie!" as the ball sails into the brush in center field...20 yards away!

Hello

Good ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks/Mercie........I like the ideas of memeorial cards. But Fr. Anthony's is goooooooooooooooooooood.

Now if you don't hear from me again in this forum, then, you know that I may be on the other side. I wonder if they write pysanky in heaven? All of the legends about the origin of pysanky that baba told me seem to stem from the Mother Of God. I bet she must know!!!! and has some good tips ( respectfully smilling here and mean no disrespect)

I love to travel, but don't get the chance much anymore.

This past year my major hobby has been the homebrewing of beer. I enjoy making the beer and most of all DRINKING it!
