I am interested in learning about St. John's writing about icons and their role in worship. I know he wrote at the time of the iconoclasm controversy, defending the role of icons.

Of course, it was a bit ironic that he wrote from outside the Byzantine Empire, trying to persuade people inside it to accept the role of icons. Nonetheless, from what I understand, he wrote a thoughtful defense of icons.

I would be grateful for any insights you offer into the works of St. John of Damascus.
