Dear Fr. Al:

They didn't vocalize it but I read their lips collectively saying: "Is outrage!" biggrin

There is an Old-Believer Archbishop of Kyiv and All Ukraine, living in - would you believe - Kyiv. But I somehow doubt that the Kharkiv Kick-Boxers and their associates are picketing either his church or his dwelling place.

The "Kyiv Post" doesn't pull any punches on this topic.

And if all Ukarainians were to chart their own destiny, as exemplified by the "daring" transfer of her HQ to its rightful place, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Chruch is setting an example as it did during the Soviet regime and in years past.

Indeed, it's extremely difficult to subdue, much less intimidate, a "team" with an "infallible quarterback!" biggrin

Bravo! Bravissimo!

Hi Father!

"Bright Wednesday of Julian calendar"? Very interestig... I don't know how other Orthodox will say that, since Pascha is the same for both calendars. I have heard "Bright Wednesday of Orthodox calendar", or 'Eastern Orthodox', or 'Eastern Church','Greek', 'Russian', etc.

Hmm - think mebbe you are splitting hairs here frown

I suspect that Fr Al said
Quote
It was on Bright Wednesday,Julian Calender this year
because as so often happen ECs and OCs were not celebrating Pascha at the same time .

The use of Julian does help us RCs to understand to which week in the year he was referring.

Dear Joseph,

Yes, a long, drawn out Russian bear hug . . . wink

Also, when people over there say "Orthodoxy" what they sometimes mean is "Great Russian Chauvinist ideology."

I'm no scripture scholar or theologian, but something tells me there is not too much of the Gospel in any of that . . .

A good weekend to you, Big Guy!

Dear Vizantinos,I suspect you have in mind the situation where some Orthodox Churches,Greek,Albanian,Romanian, etc.,follow the New Calender, but keep Pascha with all the other Orthodox in the world(except for the Finnish Orthodox). The Ukrainian Catholic Church, though Byzantine Rite, celebrates according to the Gregorian Calender in the US.They do use the Julian Calender in Ukraine, the UK, in many Canadian parishes, and in some parishes in the US.Those Ukrainian Catholics who use the Julian Calender would celebrate Pascha with the Orthodox.BTW, my sons attended a Ukrainian Catholic Parochial School in Ohio, so often they'd be singing "Christ is Risen" at school while our church would still be in the middle of Great Lent.

Dear Father Al,

Thank you for the clarification on my naive post. I didn't know that the Greek Catholic Church celebrate Pascha in Western calendar. So, accept my apology.

Dear Vizantinos,No apology needed!I work with 5 Albanians and I haven't learned much more to say then "Mire Dite" or "Si jeni?"I guess my 53 year brain can't handle languages like before. So don't feel bad because you didn't know about the calender situation.Actually in Greece, both the Greek and LATIN Rite Catholics celebrate Pascha together with the Orthodox majority.
