Hello

On April 24th the State Congress of Mexico City will approve a decree that makes abortion non-punishable in nearly all cases (today in most of the country, it is legal only in case of rape, danger to the health of the mother and the fetus, congenital disease, etc.).

This caused a widespread protest from the Catholic and Orthodox Churches (and even the Protestant sects) but unfortunately all these pro-life groups have acted as puppets of the Federal Government's party PAN (the local capitol government is from the opposition). This has dissapointed many people who disagree with these laws but who do not like the national government.

I have asked myself if the protests are legitimate. In fact, abortions already occur without this law and nothing will prevent these women from doing this if it is what they want. The grave problem is that the Churches just say that it's wrong while they have failed to spread morality and good values (virginity on women, responsable paternity in men, etc), they have accomodated peacefuly to the modern world's values. If the girls were chast and the men responsable there would be less abortions, but this is not happening.

The Union of Christian Lawyers (a group affiliated with the Catholic Church) has stated that there must be a plebiscite so that people inside the capitol can decide if the law will be approved or not. However some of the Catholic Bishops said that there must be no plebiscite. In fact there is no agreement or common policy inside the Churches.

I believe that this Law will cause nothing but more inmorality and corruption, now it will be easier to get an abortion. The local government even said that they will increase the spendings of the hospitals so that they can serve better (oh but each hospital will only allow 80 abortions per day!). I find it very repulsive really.

What is the correct attitude of the Christian when this kinf of things are happening. (Another Law approving Euthanasia will be discussed in June).

Not even the Marxist State was able to achieve such a profound de-Christianization of the Society.
