I think that you should state clearly which items are reproductions not authentic handwritten icons etc.

Orest-

Unfortunatley, I disagree. I think that it's pretty obvious.

Fr. Deacon Nikolai-

Sorry to hear things didn't work out. I will be watching some of those bids....

If that were true, why were people e-mailing the seller for verification?

For example:

"Portable Iconostasis
These seven icons were originally on the top row of a 15th c. iconostasis from Novgorod. The Deisis represents the Lord with His Holy Saints and Angels supplicating towards Him. In this beautiful example of Russian iconography, each head is bowed and hands outstretched towards Christ Enthroned. Hinged them together to accordion-fold into a compact traveling set, which then opens up to a striking array of matching iconographic imagery. Size open: 13-1/2 x 40 x 3/4", Size closed: 13-1/2 x 10-1/2 x 3 Brand new from Skete.com this would cost almost $160.00 plus shipping and handling. This wood is very heavy but I have icon hangers on the back of each of the icons so that you can hang this complete set on a wall if you wish."

Dear Oreast,

I apologize that the descriptions were not very clear. I had copied and pasted them from the bookstores that sold the items. However in the description area showing what kind of art it is, it should clearly say reproduction and now with questions being asked, hopefully it will now be clear to all. Please forgive me if I caused you any confusion at all.

Dear Markos,

Thank you for watching and hope you are successful with your bids!

Dear Harmon,

I have heard of it the other day when looking at Fr. Anthony's Saints Constantine & Helena parish web site, but have not had a chance to view it. Have you been there?

Dear Deacon Nikolai,

Yes, I was at Agia Sophia's about two weeks ago. It's quite good. The ground floor has a coffee shop with very good coffee and chai; there is also a photography studio, a few books, and some collectible (old) icons. The upstairs has most of the books. Not all of the books are religious, but most are. Most of the religious books are Orthodox, but the collection has a surprising number of (good) Catholic titles too. The real gem is the forward right corner (when you come up the stairs, it would be directly in front of you and to the right) of the second floor. That is where the gems of Orthodox spirituality are kept: the Desert Fathers, Fr. Dumitru Staniloae, Wybrew's history of the Byzantine Liturgy, the Life of St. Maximos the Confessor, writings by Hierotheos Vlacchos, etc., etc., etc.

If I had the money, I could have dropped a couple thou$and easily. I stayed within my budget, however, and still went home with a sack of books.

Also on the second floor, for those who are interested, there is a Russian tea room. It's pretty.

The local OCA pastor is kind of the chaplain, and I saw him there.

I had never visited a combination Orthodox bookstore and coffee shop, and I was delighted to find this place. Their website is http://www.agiasophiacoffeeshop.com .

If you know Colorado Springs, it is easy to get to: It's on Colorado Avenue, just a block west of Old Colorado City. If you don't, call for directions or do a Mapquest search because their map on their website is poor.

Enjoy !

(And good luck with your Ebay sale!)

How positively delightful this unique coffee house seems! smile

Thanks for sharing their website.

I will take a 'mikros' iced mocha latte please, and I noticed that the featured 'book of the month' is one of my favorites. 'Gifts of the Desert' by Kyriakos Markides is one of my favorites--it is a sequel to 'Mountain of Silence'.

Alice, I felt like I was a kid in a candy store . . . or in some forecourt of Heaven. A hot chai in my hand, a room full of saintly writings, beautiful icons on the walls, etc., etc., etc. It was delgihtful ! smile

I hope more Orthodox and more Catholics will take the cue and start good combination bookstores and coffee houses in their cities . . . and start chapels in their shopping malls. It is taking the Gospel to the marketplace, like St. Paul did. See http://www.catholicchapelmall.org for an example. I've been there too, and it is impressive; there is a constant stream of visitors (yes, including for Confessions!).

Dear Deacon Nikolai,

One of your items for sale is a series of works of patristic commentary on the Scriptures, by Johanna Manley.

I was wondering how that compares to a similar work: the Orthodox New Testament by Holy Apospels Convent and Dormition Skete ?

Dear John, I would say that they are comparable, but Joanna Manley's are much larger, as it has more content including the Old Testament. I love the ONT, but this series has much more commentary than the ONT is able to provide in its 2 volumes. Each of the 4 hardbound volumes of this series of books is quite a bit larger in every dimension that the 2 ONT Volumes.
