This Sunday, June 24th, His Grace, Bishop John, of the Eparchy of Parma will ordain 5 men to the order of Deacon at the Cathedral of St. John, 1900 Carlton Road, Parma Ohio. The service will begin promptly at 4:00 pm. Just in case you missed this in your Sunday bulletin or last issue of Horizons. All the faithful should make it a point to attend such a joyful celebration.

John Scotus

Canon 773 of the Code of canons of Oriental Churches

Sacred ordinations should be celebrated with the greatest number
of Christian faithful possible in a church on a Sunday or feast
day, unless a just cause suggests otherwise.

I would expect that the greatest number of people will attend Sunday morning. 4:00 P.M. Liturgy may very well be a Vesperal Liturgy for Monday. I would not be surprised if there was a second Liturgy (per Liturgical day) celebrated Monday morning on the same Altar, and possibly by the same Priest or Priests.

The newly ordained deacons are:

William Frederick St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church
Brecksville, OH

Paul Latcha St. Basil Byzantine Catholic Church
Sterling Heights, MI

Jeffrey Martin St. John Chrysostom Church
Columbus, OH

Daniel Surniak St. Mary Magdalene Church
Fairview Park, OH

Nicholas Szilagye St. Luke Church
Sugar Creek, MO

Deacon Nicholas is from my home parish (St. Michael's Byzantine in Oregon, OH). We were altar servers together back in the 1960's. I attended the ordination and it was very impressive.

God grant to our newly ordained deacons many years.

Congratulations to the new deacons.

One question: Does that mean all 5 new deacons were ordained in the same Divine Liturgy?
