A Statement of the Keeper of the Hawaiian Myrrh streaming Icons, Rdr. Nectarios Yangson.
Posted on another list....
Dear beloved in Christ,
In my humility and with extreme trepidation I will answer...
The rumors are indeed true, two icons at the Russian Orthodox church in Hawaii
have begun streaming myrrh. I must apologize for remaining silent about this,
we were waiting to hear from our Vladyka Archbishop +Kyrill.
I realize people from the mainland have been asking about the icons and demand a
response. Simply put, two icons are streaming. One is a mounted print made I
believe at the Sofrino factory in Russia, it is a copy of the Montreal
Myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon of the Theotokos that belonged to Martyred-Brother
Jose Munoz. The other icon is a hand-painted Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ
from Mt. Athos, it was painted by a Greek monk from the Holy Mountain.
The icons give off a very strong aroma of the sweetest roses, yet they are quite
different. The Iveron Icon smells of pure roses, while the Cross gives off a
"spicier" scent. Whether the icons' stream or do not stream (they don't gush
continuously) , they do however, continuously give off an unbelievable scent that
lifts up your heart, and in unworthiness, brings you to tears. I cannot
describe it in words.
In the past, no icon has ever streamed in our humble little parish.
An official statement is forthcoming, until then this will have to do.
In Christ's Love,
Rdr. Nectarios Yangson, a terrible sinner.
