Pictures of Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) celebrating the Holy Mass according to the Tridentine use just some years ago are aviable at the internet:

Will Pope Benedict continue celebrating the Holy Mass acording to the tridentine use in public? Will the Papacy of Benedict XVI mean a liturgical renaicence for the Latin Church? Will Pope Will Pope Benedict continue the tradition of the Popes of Rome of celebrating the Holy Liturgy according to the Byzantine rite in some special occasions? Do you now something about the relationships of the new pope with the Eastern Catholic Churches?

I'm sure he will encourage a wider application of the "Ecclesia Dei" indult which Pope John Paul II approved. But he is also on record as saying that he sees some good things in the revised Mass of Paul VI as well. So don't expect the older version of the Mass to come back - maybe just a better version of the Mass we already have. smile

In the opinion of many, myself included, Ecclesia Dei has become outdated and is a dead letter. First and foremost, bishops do not grant generous use of the Tridentine Mass, as was requested. Secondly, the canonical debates over the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) have developed beyond Ecclesia Dei's brief treatment. I think Pope Benedict recognizes this. Thus, I am eagerly awaiting his treatment of the Tridentine Use.

My hope is for Personal Apostolic Administrations to be erected. Thus, the Tridentine Use will be given a seperate governing body, and will no longer depend upon the good will of Novus Ordo bishops. I also hope a quick reconciliation can be effected with the SSPX. To do this, Pope Benedict will have to admit that every Roman priest has a right to the Tridentine Use, as was confirmed by the Nine Cardinal Commission of 1986.

Whether or not these hopes are fulled, the Tridentine Use will be given wider recognition and a more stable canonical status. But as TheistGal above points out, the Novus Ordo will remain the primary use of the Roman Church, though it will be given a more traditional impetus.

Hello

The pictures of the Armenian Liturgy in Sweden look more traditional than those that I've got from services in Argentina. And also here in Mexico, when the Armenian bishop came to celebrate mass for the Armenian faithful in Mexico, he wore Latin clerical vestments.

awww these memories.
Armenians break hearts. frown

Hmno Francisco:

Your post regarding the Mass of the Roman Missal of 1962 probably belongs an a Roman Catholic forum. Now there's been a great deal of focus upon Latin Catholic praxis of late, and given the recent events that may be somewhat understandable. However, this is first a foremost a forum of the Eastern Church. The following is taken from the User Agreement:

Welcome to The Byzantine Forum!

The Byzantine Forum welcomes all newcomers to our on-line community. This forum is mainly a community of Byzantine and other Eastern Christians who share a common historical and theological heritage. As such, it is an Eastern Christian forum and not specifically a Catholic forum. Roman Catholic and other Western Christians who have come here to learn about how we express our faith in Christ are warmly invited to participate, but we make clear that the primary purpose of this forum is to exchange information and ideas and not to engage in heavy apologetics. If you have come to overload us with apologetic quotes to test how "Catholic" we really are, please don't bother to register - that is simply not how we live out our lives of faith.

To truly understand who Eastern Christians are you must "come and see" for yourself by joining us in worship. The warmth and fellowship of our faith experienced in person cannot be described in any book. We extend a warm invitation to everyone to visit one of our parishes and join us in prayer.
