I never knew how cold snow was before this weekend. I am in Seward Nebraska for a Speech and Debate tournament and have finally discovered that snow is fun but after a while it is overated. The first day I spent in Nebraska was mostly made up of going to debate rounds and getting into a snowball fight with my debate partner, she won. Anyway I have a newfound respect for all here who live in colder climes and will never make a fuss about cold weather back home in Southern California ever ever ever again.

You know, Nebraska isn't known for cold. And it's 18 there today! That's not even cold!
Our high yesterday was 0. Today's low was -13. Without windchill. Which has been in the -30 or more range for the last several days. By Friday we're expecting it to be 20 degrees.
Nan, in Minnesota, where we don't let the weather push us around; the pond hockey tournament took place this weekend as scheduled and the Winter Carnival is about to start.

Our average winter temperature hovers around the 40s during daytime, then drops at night. However, it seems it's cold nearly everywhere. We were at 14 last night and will be at 13 tonight.

We were around zero this morning. It was fun watching the digital thermometer on our sliding glass door climb in temperature as the sun climbed in the sky.
Our high today was about 15 degrees.

Y'all it snowed here yesterday and we had ice on the roads this morning. It was COLD! But, today it was up to the 30s. Still some snow on the roofs and on cars a few little snowpeople sitting in yards - saw some from about a foot to three feet tall, one had a tierra on it - they are still up. Tonight it will be in the 20s better than that teens they have been telling us about.
I guess I have gotten lazy after being in Alabamy for 20+ years.

Pani Rose - I snowed down there yesterday? For real? We didn't get any snow up here in Huntsville. It was a pretty dry (but cold) day.
I grew up in northern Michigan, so cold (below zero) weather and snow are not completely foreign to me. But last Wednesday, here in northern Alabama (a mere 35 miles from the Alabama-Tennessee state line) it snowed. Not a few flakes in a pseudo-flurry. But a real taste of snow. Enough that it interfered with visibility and actually left some snow on the ground. At least until it turned into rain and melted all the snow.
I've only seen people react to snow this way once before in my life. It was Christmas of 1989 when it snowed in Jacksonville, Florida.
Southerners and snow are not a good mix. ;-) In fact, Southerners driving in snow is downright terrifying. LOL
I'm also getting a lot of weird looks. My neighbours are all dressed in parkas, hats, gloves, scarves ... the cold weather works. I went out last night wearing a polo shirt and a medium weight zippered sweatshirt. They've all decided I'm nuts.
But I have to say I'm really glad I'm not dealing with real snow!
